On Wednesday, October 2 at 9am, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, BRIC Chair Hilary Ackermann, BRIC President Leslie G. Schultz, UrbanGlass Board Chair Larry Pitterman, UrbanGlass Executive Director Cybele Maylone and others will cut the ribbon on BRIC Arts | Media House, a multi-disciplinary arts and media complex that will house BRIC, non-profit presenting performing arts, contemporary art and community media programs reflecting Brooklyn's creativity and diversity, and the UrbanGlass, a center dedicated to the artistic medium of glass.

Tomorrow, August 15, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will host Huey Lewis and the News at the 35th anniversary season of the Seaside Summer Concert Series at Coney Island. This is only the second time the band, which is celebrating the 30th anniversary of their chart-topping album Sports, has played in Brooklyn.

On Tuesday, June 4, the office of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz joined the Brooklyn Book Festival, members of the Brooklyn Literary Council and top authors, publishing industry leaders, editors and literary agents to publicly reveal the more than one hundred and forty national and international authors who have already agreed to participate in the eighth annual Brooklyn Book Festival and to welcome back AT&T as its major sponsor. The Festival will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Borough Hall, and other venues including St. Francis College, Brooklyn Historical Society, St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church and Columbus Park. On Thursday, February 14, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and wife Jamie joined hundreds of Brooklyn sweethearts who have been married to one another for 50 years or more, including Kings County District Attorney Charles 'Joe' Hynes and bride Patricia, who will celebrate a half century of wedded bliss this October. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has released the following statement about Hurricane Sandy: 'By 7:00 this evening, all residents in Evacuation Zone A should have left their homes to stay with loved ones or at one of the city shelters that opened earlier this morning. This includes, but is not limited to, Brooklynites living in parts of Coney Island, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Sunset Park, Red Hook, DUMBO, Williamsburg and Greenpoint. I strongly urge all residents in this zone to follow the evacuation order for their personal welfare as well as the safety of rescue personnel who will have to risk their own lives in the event of serious, life-threatening conditions.'
