Turn to the Right! 1916

As we all know, the 23/24 Broadway theatre season has been one of the busiest in a very long time with many new plays and musicals opening within a short period. One of those shows was The Notebook. It features a score by pop writer Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunsetter. The show had a pre-Broadway tryout in Chicago where it was met with unanimous rave reviews.

What did our critic think of SIX at the National Arts Centre?

Today’s spotlight is focused on Alyssa Freeze, a senior at Coffee County High School, who garnered Spotlight Award attention for her performance as Janet Van De Graff in The Drowsy Chaperone. This fall, Alyssa begins her college career at Nashville’s Lipscomb University.

Following previously shared lead singles 'Wild Geese, Wild Love', 'Day 2000 Awake', ‘Poor Symmetry’ and ‘Cities’, she has followed up with new single ‘My Hands In The Water’. This calmness and acceptance radiates through 'My Hands In The Water' which despite plumbing heavy subject matter finds light and warmth over its skittering percussion in Amanda's rich yet lighter-than-air voice. Jason Butler Harner is all over our screens these days. Currently, he is appearing in a newly released independent film called The Big Bend, which follows two couples who attempt to reconnect in the midst of undisclosed struggles that rise to the surface throughout the film. Harner also appears in Sugar, the Apple TV+ series starring Colin Farrell. BroadwayWorld sat down with Harner to talk about his latest film, Sugar's major twist, and his eagerness to return to the stage.

Broadway World went on a hunt for the bare necessities when we traveled to Sheridan to see The Grant County Theater’s presentation of THE JUNGLE BOOK Friday, May 10, but instead found all sorts of wild thespians taking the stage. Written by Joseph Robinette and based on the book by Rudyard Kipling, this play was not exactly like the Disney version, but it still had a lot of the familiar characters.  It was a packed house, and rightfully so. This theater grabs you when you walk into the door.  

ThumbCoast Theater brings the classic comedy-thriller THE 39 STEPS to the stage.

Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) and Kate Maguire have announced casting for its upcoming production of 4000 Miles, a play redefining family, loss and healing.

A cabaret night called Back To Before looked back at the numerous scores of Ahrens and Flaherty. Material from Seussical, Anastasia, Ragtime, The Glorious Ones, and more sounded glorious at the May 7th show.

Sullivan's work is tailor-made for an instrument as pure and nuanced as Berk’s voice. The May 12th show was phenomenal.

What did our critic think: This is cutting edge theater of the highest order.  Dangerous and daring, it’s more than simply Avant Guard, it is timeless and contemporary at the same time – the kind of theater that makes you sit up on the edge of your seat and pay attention.

Superb performances anchor a hurtling rollercoaster of a play that will live long in the memory of anyone who sees it.

The composing team of Gitter and Berg turn out some very serviceable tunes that drive both the story and the character arcs with a simple style that helps the passionate performers invest their characters with a lot of heart.
