Summer Exhibitions And Events Announced At The Guggenheim Museum

From June 18 through September 3, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is open until 9 pm for Summer Tuesdays, offering music and refreshments in the museum rotunda in addition to exhibitions on view in the galleries. Films, conversations, and performances enhance opportunities for visitors to engage with the museum and the Frank Lloyd Wright designed building that celebrates 60 years as an architectural icon in 2019. Also starting in June, Summer of Know, a conversation series addressing urgent issues through the generative lens of art, returns to the Guggenheim, featuring artists, activists, and other professionals discussing topics such as LGBTQIA+ rights in a global context, environmental activism, and housing rights. Hauser Wirth & Schimmel to Honor Dada Movement with SCHWITTERS MIR�" ARP

Beginning 16 October, Hauser Wirth & Schimmel will present a comprehensive exhibition of the renowned Dadaists Kurt Schwitters (1887 - 1948) and Hans Arp (1886 - 1966), in the context of works by the Spanish painter, graphic artist and sculptor Joan Miro (1893 - 1983). 'Schwitters Miro Arp' was first curated for Hauser & Wirth Zurich in Summer 2016 to celebrate the centenary of the Dada movement in the city of its birth. The new iteration of this group show will include a significant addition of works by Hans Arp - the first large-scale treatment of works by Arp in Los Angeles.

MTV Enlists Brooklyn-Based Artist Kaws to Redesign 'Moonman' for 2013 VMAs

MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc. (NASDAQ: VIAB, VIA), has teamed up with the world-renowned, Brooklyn-based artist KAWS to reimagine the MTV Moonman for the 2013 MTV “Video Music Awards” -- the first major awards show to ever take place in Brooklyn, airing LIVE from Barclays Center on August 25, 2013. An artist whose work has been presented at prestigious museums and galleries from Los Angeles to Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong, KAWS' art will be present throughout the award show, influencing the design for both the set and the logo. Additionally, artists who win a 2013 “Video Music Award” will take home a special-edition KAWS Moonman, which was created exclusively for this year's show.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today a weeklong series focusing on David Bowie, the actor. 2013 has seen the re-emergence of the always fascinating musician, performer and artist with the release of a new album (“The Next Day”) and a sold-out museum exhibition in London (David Bowie Is). In honor of his genius for shape shifting, the Film Society will present Watch That Man: David Bowie, Movie Star (August 2-8), a retrospective of what is arguably his finest work on the big screen—plus two special rarities from the BBC archives, one of which has never been seen in the U.S.

MTV, MoMA PS1 and Creative Time today unveiled a second round of the innovative video-art series ART BREAKS. Featuring five thirty-second videos by a variety of bold young artists, this latest installment of the series, which launched earlier this year, will debut on MTV, MTV.com, MTV's Facebook page, and on a dedicated Tumblr page on Thursday, November 15, and will continue regularly through April 2013.

MTV, MoMA PS1, and Creative Time today announced Art Breaks, a new series of ten original video art pieces by some of the most exciting emerging artists working around the world today. The videos, which were commissioned and curated by Creative Time and MoMA PS1, will debut on MTV, MTV.com, MTV's Facebook page and a dedicated Tumblr page beginning Monday, April 2nd and continuing throughout 2012, bringing experimental artwork directly to MTV's global audience of more than 600 million.
