In a last-minute change, internationally acclaimed soprano Elizabeth Caballero will take over the title role in the Bay Area premiere of Daniel Catán’s captivating opera, Florencia en el Amazonas presented by Opera San José.

The full cast has been announced for the RSC's forthcoming production of Shakespeare's suburban comedy, The Merry Wives of Windsor.  Directed by Blanche McIntyre, the show runs in repertoire in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon between 5 June – 7 September.  

The 2024 George London Award winners have been announced, including soprano Katerina Burton, mezzo-sopranos Emily Treigle and Erin Wagner, tenor Samuel White, and baritones Benjamin Dickerson and Darren Drone.

The Met celebrates the new year with a new production of Bizet's Carmen by acclaimed English director Carrie Cracknell, opening on Sunday, December 31, at 6:30PM. In her highly anticipated Met debut, Cracknell reinvigorates the classic story of deadly passion with a staging that moves the action to modern day and explores themes that could not be more relevant today: gendered violence, abusive labor structures, and the desire to break through societal boundaries.

The Met's new production of Bizet's Carmen, directed by Carrie Cracknell, opens on December 31.

General Director and CEO Deborah Sandler Kemper today announced the selection of the artists for the Resident Artist and Apprentice Artist programs for the 2023-2024 season. The 2023-2024 Resident Artists include soprano Kelli Van Meter, mezzo-soprano Christine Boddicker, tenor Benjamin Ruiz, bass-baritone Jose Olivares, and pianist/coach Jimin Seo.

Yaritza Véliz is named 2023 Emerging Star of the Year based on a popular vote conducted online at sfopera.com from July 11 to August 4, 2023. As the winner of the competition, now in its fifth year, Véliz receives a $10,000 cash prize.

The Greek National Opera (GNO) presents the premiere of a new production of Verdi's Falstaff, staged by acclaimed opera director and Artistic Director of the Glyndebourne Festival Stephen Langridge and conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi on its high-quality streaming platform, GNO TV, beginning today June 29, 2023 at tv.nationalopera.gr. Falstaff was filmed in Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens during its premiere run from January 26, 2023-February 12, 2023.

After a sold-out performance at this year’s Wandsworth Arts Fringe in London, a witty new show based on Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor will be showing at Laurel’s in Whitley Bay for two nights only.

​​​​​​​Ivo van Hove, the Tony Award–winning director of Broadway's A View from the Bridge, makes a major Met debut with Mozart's Don Giovanni (May 5–June 2), re-setting the familiar tale of deceit and damnation in an abstract architectural landscape and shining a light into the work's dark corners.

The Met presents the winners of the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition: tenor Anthony León, mezzo-soprano Natalie Lewis, soprano Teresa Perrotta, mezzo-soprano Sarah Saturnino, bass-baritone Christian Simmons, and soprano Meredith Wohlgemuth.

Soprano Angela Meade will sing the title role of Verdi's Aida on April 27, 30 and May 6, 10, and soprano Leah Crocetto will complete the run on May 13 and 18, both replacing Michelle Bradley, who has withdrawn for personal reasons. 

On the big screen of the Ridgefield Playhouse from The Met Opera's 2022-2023 season comes Verdi's glorious Shakespearean comedy, Falfstaff. An Encore in HD screening will take place on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 6pm.

Verdi’s exuberant final opera, Falstaff, brought down the house with laughter and applause at its opening on Sunday, 12th March, and audiences around the world are invited to experience the production live in cinemas on Saturday 1st April. Check out all new photos from the production here!
