Anthony Roth Costanzo to Be Honored at New-York Historical Society's Annual History Makers Gala


The New-York Historical Society will present the 2022 History Makers Award to opera superstar, arts innovator, and civic leader Anthony Roth Costanzo for his achievements in the performing arts and for his activism. The gala will take place on October 6, 2022, at New-York Historical’s Central Park West home. Pam Schafler, chair emerita of New-York Historical’s Board of Trustees, will be honored with the 1804 Founders Medal for Distinguished Service. Renowned historian and Pulitzer prize-winning author Jon Meacham will deliver the keynote address.

GI Film Festival Closes with Military Documentaries Today


Today, May 21st, the GI Film Festival San Diego closes the multi-day military event with documentaries that explore many themes and leave festival-goers wanting more. Kicking off the final day of film screenings will be the World Premiere of the documentary feature “Nation’s Promise” at 12 noon, and preceded by “Blind Ambition: The Wop May Story.” A Documentary Block will follow at 2:15 p.m. with three documentary shorts that explore resiliency, healing and forgiveness, including “Veterans Journey Home: On Black Mountain,” “Down on the Ranch,” and “The Monument of Tolerance.”

2022 GI Film Festival Announces Film Lineup


Organizers of the GI Film Festival San Diego are thrilled to announce a diverse film lineup for its annual event happening May 17-21, 2022 at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in Balboa Park. The film festival is dedicated to presenting films and events for, by and about military and veterans, and is set to return to in-person screenings for the first time since 2019. American Ancestors Continues Its Popular, Free, Virtual American Inspiration Series


On Tuesday, August 11, at 6:00 p.m., American Ancestors and NEHGS, in collaboration with the Boston Public Library (BPL) and Boston's Museum of African American History (MAAH), will present a virtual conversation between acclaimed historian and author Gretchen Sorin and Kinshasha Holman Conwill, Deputy Director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History & Culture. Organizers of the GI Film Festival San Diego, a military-themed film festival that presents films and events for, by and about military service members and veterans, announce KPBS as the sole producer of the national film festival. All activities will now originate in San Diego, California, including the awards competition, judging, and in-person film screenings.
