New Camerata Opera has announced their Fall 2020 Season. This marks the beginning of the fifth season of immersive programming for New Camerata Opera's three branches: mainstage productions, online operatic films via CamerataWorks, and children's operas through Camerata Piccola.

New Camerata Opera will present the New York fully-staged premiere of  Barnum's Bird at (Le) Poisson Rouge, a live music venue located in Greenwich Village. This opera, composed by Libby Larsen with a libretto by Bridget Carpenter, debuted in 2001. It tells the story of famed operatic soprano, Jenny Lind, and her American tour with P.T. Barnum in 1850. Barnum's Bird is also an extraordinary vehicle through which to gain insight into one's own experiences as a lover of art and a consumer of entertainment. Performances will be held on May 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:00pm).

This November, as a new anchor partner with The Flea Theater in TriBeCa, New Camerata Opera will present a double-bill of Gustav Holst's S?vitri and John Blow's Venus and Adonis. The production will be directed by Jennifer Williams, whose immersive productions have garnered praise around the world and in Washington D.C., as founder and Artistic Director of Public Opera, and where she recently had her debut with Washington National Opera.

Tickets start at $45. From the famous brindisi drinking song to the heartbreaking 'Addio del passato' aria, the original 'Pretty Woman' proves it's better to have loved once than not at all. Verdi's romantic masterpiece and familiar tunes are as timeless as the storyline is contemporary, pitting tensions of social class against Violetta's personal sacrifice.

Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director) has a well-earned reputation for launching both performers and shows to Broadway. Since their inception in 1996, the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre have ignited the careers of many notable performers, all of whom attended high school in New Jersey.  Among the early nominees and winners are Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables), Tony Award winners Laura Benanti (Gypsy) and Nikki M. With the history of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS as rich and complicated as the melodrama within itself, the reinvention presented by the Austin Opera this season is reminiscent of this Opera's rich history and beginnings. Premiering initially in 1912, Richard Strauss conceived a performance mixing the comedic style of Moliere' with the musically focused German-style melodrama opera. Appearing originally in two contrasting acts, the first begins as a play, and the second transitions into a full-fledged opera with comedic highlights. Historically, audiences were flustered in Munich and London by the contrasting art forms rolled into one night of entertainment - specifically, opera aficionados were loathe to sit through an entire act of a performance, before hearing the opera they were expecting in act two. After a variety of attempts with different versions and audience locations, Strauss' Libretto partner Hofmannsthal proposed a new first act be written to provide context on marrying the dramatization of operatic performance style with less prestigious but entertaining commedia dell'arte. Thus the second version of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS was presented in 1916 in Berlin and despite unsuccessful returns of a few productions, this opera/commedia concoction went on to be performed all over European Opera houses until it's first presentation in the United States in 1925. This rich history and reworking lend well to the present production at The Long Center presented by Austin Opera.
