WhaThe San Diego Opera has outdone itself with its most recent production of Puccini’s Tosca. The three major roles are sung by appealing voices with exceptional power; the company’s chorus and the city’s children’s choir combined for thrilling moments, especially in the riveting Act I finale; San Diego Symphony musicians excelled under Italian conductor Valerio Galli, caressing the opera’s most romantic melodies and offering glowing resonance in its heroic themes. On Friday, July 23rd, I had the pleasure of seeing live theatre from the Castle Craig Players, again, their first live show since March of 2020!  Performing outdoors at the Hubbard Park Bandshell, in Meriden, CT, the Castle Craig Players return to live performances, right where they left off, with yet another phenomenal first-rate production, the family friendly 1967 classic musical, YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN. After seeing this show as presented live by the Castle Craig Players, it has now become one of my absolute favorite musicals!

LACO's Jeffrey Kahane to Take Audience on Musical Tour of Bach's Cantata 140

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) Music Director Jeffrey Kahane serves as musical "tour guide" for LACO's annual "Discover" performance, a special one-night-only exploration of Bach's popular Cantata No. 140 featuring soprano Teresa Wakim, tenor Colin Ainsworth, bass Andrew Craig Brown, USC-Thornton Chamber Singers and Los Angeles Children's Chorus, on Saturday, January 23, 2016, 8 pm, at Pasadena's Ambassador Auditorium.  This 'Discover' program is designed to lead patrons to a greater understanding and appreciation of the historical and cultural significance of cantatas composed by Bach and to hear the piece with 'new ears.'  One of Bach's approximately 200 surviving sacred cantatas, it is noted for a remarkable range of expression and musical styles.  Kahane, who explores a different work each year at LACO's 'Discover' concert, is lauded for his 'eloquence' (The New York Times).
