Four actors, each participating from a different remote location, will perform a live online reading of MOTHERS AND SONS on Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 pm.  Pride Films and Plays Executive Director David G. Zak will direct the reading of the play by Terrence McNally, who passed away at age 81 on March 24 of complications from COVID-19. This is an encore of the reading of the play the company presented in fall 2018 during the run of their production of McNally's IT'S ONLY A PLAY and is the first of several remote presentations the company is planning in order to maintain programming until performances can again be presented in-person in the theater.

Cody Dericks, is a graduate of Hofstra University whose Chicago credits include HOLDING THE MAN and JERKER for Pride Films and Plays, has has stepped into the role of Alex, the graduate student who along with his husband Josh (Marc Prince), welcomes a third young man, Darius (Jesse James Montoya) into their bed.

Underscore Theatre Company is pleased to present its 5th annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, created to showcase and support the growing field of musical theatre creators from Chicago and beyond. This year's Festival features full productions of nine new musicals plus two free readings. The Festival will be performed simultaneously on two stages at The Edge Theater: the Broadway (5451 N. Broadway) and the new Off Broadway (1133 W. Catalpa Ave.) in Chicago Edgewater neighborhood. Each full production will receive at least five performances during the Festival. Complete cast and crew have been announced for Pride Films and Plays' Chicago premiere of HOLDING THE MAN, a drama from Australia chronicling the 15-year relationship of a real-life gay male couple, based on Timothy Conigrave's celebrated memoir of the same name. In 1976, Tim and John meet as teenagers at their all-boys Catholic school in Melbourne and become boyfriends. The story follows them into adulthood as their relationship endures in spite of such obstacles as parental resistance, differing views on monogamy, separation, and finally HIV.

MCL Chicago Artistic Director Alex Garday is proud to present a world premiere comedic musical Ayn Rand in Love as part of the summer series. Ayn Rand in Love tells the story of a young Ayn Rand falling in what one would call love (she would not) with the charismatic Frank O'Connor. Taking some truth from her early days working with MGM Studios, the musical has all the glitz and glamour of an MGM classic of the late 1920s. When Ayn Rand sees something of value to her, she knows how to get it ­ and a job at MGM, Frank O'Connor, and another lover are no exception. The production runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.

Famed gossip columnist Liz Smith -- 'the Grande Dame of Dish' -- has won countless honors, including an Emmy Award, in her long career. But she's never before been depicted on the stage. In 'Theater Boys' -- the new musical comedy by ASCAP Award-winner Chip Deffaa, now playing at the 13th Street Repertory Theater -- she's not only a character in the show, she's the subject of a whole song about her, a rousing fast-boogie simply titled 'Liz Smith.' That song will also be heard on the show's cast album (sung by Ricky Schroder and the ensemble), being released today, October 18th.

It's the biggest, most ambitious undertaking in years for the historic 13th Street Repertory Theater, at 50 West 13th Street, NYC. On September 21st, they'll be launching ASCAP award-winner Chip Deffaa's new musical comedy "Theater Boys"-and also, during the run, the cast album for the show.

This summer, Royal Family Productions will bring its gender-bending 'Romeo/Juliet,' a one-hour adaptation incorporating evocative movement, original music, and a fresh view on age-old stereotypes, to Scotland to participate in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
