Brighid Fleming BIO

Brighid began her acting career at 3 years old when she saw "Seussical the Musical". After the show, she was asked if she would like to meet the Cat in the Hat. She thought about it and replied, "No, I want to be the Cat in the Hat. How do you get up there?"

After a couple of years on the local Albuquerque theatre circuit, Brighid landed an international modeling job with LaCoste. From there, she began picking up small parts in films that were shooting in NM. Finally, in 2007 she made her way out to LA. On a flight home to Albuquerque to film "The Burrowers", she met a couple of directors, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. She landed the supporting role of Delia in their film, "Gamer", which starred Gerard Butler.

She has since been working away in LA doing small Indies, student films, and theatre, as well as appearances on television and an occasional feature film. A couple of national commercials and a music video or two have also come her way. She won a maverick award for her role in "Sugar Rush", a USC film. She has also been nominated for festival awards for her work in "After the Shearing" (a UCLA Grad film for AARP). She won Best Actress for the short A.B.S at the Women's Independent Film Festival. She was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her part in "Criminal Minds."

Deborah Dozier Potter, a former member of the Kennedy Center's President's Advisory Council for the Arts and the daughter of Joan Fontaine and niece of Olivia de Havilland, called Brighid's performance in the NM produced film "Hearts of Desire" extraordinary, remarking that she believed Brighid was destined for greatness. The LA Times said her performance in Woyzeck for the Gangbusters Theatre Company had disarming command.

In 2011, Fleming wrote and directed her own short film, A.B.S. A.B.S is on the festival circuit where it has already won awards of distinction, including best short film, in several festivals. She has also picked up awards for directing and cinematography for A.B.S. Her dream is to get her production company, Phish Tank Philms, up and running and to turn A.B.S into a web series.

In 2013, Fleming achieved another goal when she landed the role of Iris in the Center Theatre Group World Premiere of "The Nether," at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. The show opened to rave reviews and Fleming was a particular standout. The LA Times said, "Fleming commands our attention." Variety called her performance "remarkable." TheatreMania thought her interpretation of Iris was, "an intricate performance, handled sensitively by a young actress."

In her spare time, she participates in roller derby with the Los Angeles Derby Dolls. She also enjoys surfing and would rather be at the beach than anywhere else.

'Pro99' Actors' Equity Members Send Open Letter to AEA President

Members of the 'Pro99' movement of Actors' Equity Association have issued an open letter to AEA's newly elected president, Kate Shindle, in response to her victory and to her inaugural address as president of the national union for actors and stage managers. The open letter is signed by over 400 Equity members (listed below), including such notable names as Ed Asner, Francis Fisher, Sally Kirkland and Alfred Molina. The 'Pro99' movement formed in late 2014 in opposition to AEA's rollout of a new plan that will effectively force 'intimate theaters' in Los Angeles to pay Equity actors minimum wage, go 'non-union' or even close - despite an overwhelming vote against the plan by 66% of the Los Angeles membership on an advisory referendum. 'Pro99' members around the nation, who take their name from the current AEA '99 Seat Plan' that allows members to volunteer in smaller venues, oppose AEA's new promulgated plan. They are requesting that Equity leadership put a moratorium on the plan until local members' voices can be heard, and that the union work with its members to develop an alternative plan that will more realistically address the needs of the Los Angeles theater community.

BWW Reviews: World Premiere of Comic Noir DAY TRADER Proves Money is the Only Excuse for Giving Away Your Soul

It's quite a treat to experience watching a playwright perform in his own work. While at first I was disappointed to be seeing an understudy in the main role, when it turned out it was the playwright Eric Rudnick playing the lead in his own play DAY TRADER at the Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles on January 18, I was thrilled to be in the audience.

BWW Reviews: Re-Adapted WAIT UNTIL DARK Offers Chilling Performances at Geffen

Frederick Knott's psychological thriller Wait Until Dark first premiered on Broadway in 1966 with Lee Remick in the title role and was later turned into a film with Audrey Hepburn. The latest adaptation of the play at the Geffen is by Jeffrey Hatcher, who has moved the action from the 60s to the 40s. The concept has piqued a lot of interest, but upon seeing the finished product, the whole business seems curious.

The Production Company Hosts Boys and Girls Club at TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD

The Production Company announces its first community-outreach program by hosting the Boys and Girls Club of East Los Angeles at a special command performance of Christopher Sergel's stage adaptation of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD on Thursday, January 17th, 2011.

Gentle Mockingbird Soars

Robert Mulligan's 1962 film of Harper Lee's magnificent novel To Kill a Mockingbird is for me one of the greatest black and white films ever made. Christopher Sergel adapted the novel to the stage in 1990, and the play respects Lee's keen vision of humanity and keeps intact the poetic beauty of her words. The Prodco's production @ The Lex, the first play in their new home, ardently resonates the timeless message of tolerance and friendship.
