Passions run high both onstage and offstage in Cole Porter's classic jazz musical 'Kiss Me Kate,' now playing at Broadhollow Theatre Company's Bayway Arts Center, soon moving to the Broadhollow Theatre in Elmont. It's the late 1940s in Baltimore, and leading lady of the stage and silver screen Lilli Vanessi battles it out with her ex-husband, actor, director, and producer Fred Graham, in a tryout production of William Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew.' Sparks fly between the former flames, especially when young up-and-comers Lois Lane and Bill Calhoun get the entire company entangled with a $10,000 IOU debt pursued by two madcap mobsters. With romance, comedy, sophistication, and behind-the-scenes hijinks, 'Kiss Me Kate' is an enduring crowd-pleaser, combining the irreverent humor of two brilliant writers: William Shakespeare and Cole Porter.

Nominations for the 23rd Annual SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS were announced live today from the Pacific Design Center. Sophia Bush (Chicago P.D., One Tree Hill) and Common (Suicide Squad, Selma) joined SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris to reveal this year's announce the nominees.

?The Old Globe and Hartford Stage's co-production of Kiss Me, Kate, the classic musical comedy featuring a book by Sam and Bella Spewack and an iconic score by Cole Porter, will be choreographed by Peggy Hickey and directed by Hartford Stage Artistic Director and former Old Globe Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak, who won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, which made its world premiere at The Old Globe and Hartford Stage in 2013. Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate is a delightful musical romp that can be seen again and again. It's timeless and an overblown, yet joyous account of two egotistical actors, once married to each other, who adore one another but just cannot be around each other very long without catastrophic, calamitous results. It's also a play within a play, as Lilli Vanessi (Lesli Margherita) and Fred Graham (Tom Hewitt) are on tour essaying Katharine and Petruchio in Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Above all, the silly contrived story is overshadowed by Cole Porter's divine score with some of the most glorious tunes ever composed. Kiss Me Kate is a showcase to Porter's genius. Reprise Theatre's current revival is devastatingly hilarious with top-notch direction from Michael Michetti and a magnificent cast.
