2019 Tony winner Andre De Shields has been attending The National Black Theatre Festival® (NBTF) in Winston-Salem, N. C. since 1995. Dubbed the 'Black Theatre Holy Ground,' NBTF is the international outreach program of the North Carolina Black Repertory Company, founded by the late Larry Leon Hamlin in 1979. The Festival, also founded by Hamlin, has been held biennially since 1989. The NCBRC celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, while the NBTF celebrated its 30th.

Joining Van Der Beek is Golden Globe and Emmy award winner Kathy Baker (Picket Fences, Edward Scissorshands, All the King's Men) as well as acclaimed stage and screen actors Chris Mulkey (First Blood, Southland, Twin Peaks) and Jaime Ray Newman (Eastwick, Catch Me If You Can). Helmed by international powerhouse director/actor Maria Aitken, The Gift is currently in previews in the Gil Cates Theater at the Geffen Playhouse, and officially opens on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. Critically acclaimed Austin, TX ensemble, Rude Mechs, returns to New York and makes its Dance Theater Workshop debut with the New York premiere of THE METHOD GUN, a piece exploring the life and techniques of Stella Burden, an apocryphal actor-training guru of the 60s and 70s. Ms. Burden's training technique, The Approach - often referred to as 'the most dangerous acting technique in the world' - fused Western acting methods with risk-based rituals in order to infuse even the smallest role with sex, death and violence.
