Avenue Q recently held some special events in honor of World Puppetry Day on March 21.

AVENUE Q became an overnight sensation on Broadway in July 2003 following a sold-out engagement and was extended four times after being presented Off-Broadway by Vineyard Theatre and The New Group. Since it roared into the spotlight - with its singular cast of people and puppets including Princeton, Kate Monster, Rod, Nicky, Trekkie, Christmas Eve, Gary Coleman and Lucy T. Slut - opening on Broadway on July 31, 2003, AVENUE Q has given over 6,000 performances, running seven years on Broadway before transferring to New World Stages in 2009, where it continues to play to large and happy houses.

Prior to curtain, Media and Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver presented a proclamation from the City of New York to the musical's cast, creators and producers declaring July 31 as AVENUE Q DAY. Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron's hit Off Broadway show, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, welcomed its newest castlast night, AUgust 12, with a celebration immediately following the 8:00 PM performance. Love, Loss, and What I Wore's newest cast members include: Marylouise Burke (HBO's 'Hung'), Emmanuelle Chriqui (HBO's 'Entourage'), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Roslyn Ruff (The Help) and Yeardley Smith ('The Simpsons').

The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces Avenue Q, opening June 2 and playing through July 10, 2011 on the Phoenix Mainstage. Avenue Q, with music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and original story by Jeff Whitty, opened off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in March 2003, where it gained rave reviews, and was extended four times. The Phoenix is the first regional, professional theatre to produce Avenue Q, winner of the 2004 Tony for Best Musical, with a local professional cast and crew.

Love,Loss, and What I Wore's newest cast members include Tichina Arnold ('Everybody Hates Chris'), Margaret Colin ('Gossip Girl'), Alicia Goranson ('Roseanne'), Ann Harada (Avenue Q) and Maria Tucci (Mary Stuart).

Producer Daryl Roth announced today that Margaret Colin ('Gossip Girl'), Anita Gillette ('30 Rock'), Ann Harada (Avenue Q), Mary Testa (Eat Pray Love; Xanadu), and Pauletta Washington ('The Parkers') will join upcoming NYC casts of Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron's Love, Loss, and What I Wore, which has just entered its second smash year at The Westside Theatre (407 West 43 Street). Colin and Harada complete the November cast (November 3 - December 5), which also includes the previously announced Tichina Arnold ('Everybody Hates Chris'), Alicia Goranson ('Roseanne') and Maria Tucci (Mary Stuart).

AVENUE Q, the smash-hit Broadway musical about real life in New York City, as told by a cast of people and puppets, will return in a Broadway/San Diego ~ A Nederlander Presentation, playing at the San Diego Civic Theatre Tuesday July 6 through Sunday July 11, 2010.

Last night, Monday, May 10, The New Group opened their latest production of The Kid. This marks the final production in The New Group's current 2009-2010 season, which featured Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger and most recently, the hit revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind, directed by Ethan Hawke. The award-winning York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) begins performances for the return of its hilarious and heartwarming holiday hit 2006 revue, That Time of the Year. This extremely limited engagement will be presented in a style similar to the York's Musicals in Mufti Series (Staged concerts of musical theatre gems performed 'book-in-hand' with minimal props and costumes) this weekend only from December 18th through December 20th, 2009.

The 21st Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION announced an all time record total of $4,630,695 had been raised by the 60 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and National Tour companies to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year's total breaks the previous record when $3,927,000 was raised for the 2007 GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION.

Previews began on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 for the first ever Broadway production of OLEANNA, the provocative drama by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet.
