The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene's Off-Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish, directed by Academy and Tony Award winner Joel Grey, will be releasing a cast album. The cast recording, released by Time Life Music and distributed byWarner Music Group, will be available in 2019, with an official date to be announced before the show transfers to Off-Broadway's Stage 42 in February.

Last night was a momentous occasion at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene's Yiddish language production of Fiddler on the Roof, which recently extended its run through December 30 to meet the high demand for tickets, celebrated its 100th sold out performance. The 104-year old National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene's (NYTF) critically-acclaimed Yiddish language production of Fiddler on the Roof, playing at the Museum of Jewish Heritage (MJH), is extending its run through December 30 to meet the high demand for tickets. The unprecedented success of the Yiddish language Fiddler on the Roof has inspired the production, presented with English and Russian supertitles, to be extended four times since its July 4th debut due to sold-out audiences. This is the final extension.

TEVYE SERVED RAW opened Tuesday, July 17th. Just two nights earlier, the NYT/Folksbiene opened the first American production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF in Yiddish. Two of the stars of that highly successful production were in attendance at the opening of TEVYE SERVED RAW. Jackie Hoffman, who plays Yente in FIDDLER, and Daniel Kahn, who plays Perchik, were the first to jump to their feet at the evening's standing ovation.

This past Hanukkah I witnessed a kind of miracle in modern times: Toho Stage's Fiddler on the Roof, performed in Japanese by an all Asian company. The quintessential Jewish musical set in Imperial Russia in 1905 is based on Tevye and his Daughters and other tales by Sholem Aleichem about a poor dairyman's attempts to maintain his cultural and religious traditions in a changing world.
