Chicago Human Rhythm Project's Jubalee Gala Set for 10/7

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), celebrating 25 years as the nation's premier presenter of American tap dance and contemporary percussive arts, honors Patti Eylar and Charlie Gardner and The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation with its JUBA! Award at Jubalee, CHRP's annual gala benefit supporting performance, education and community programs that reach more than 20,000 people every year. This special evening, hosted by Bill Kurtis, takes place October 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.

Chicago Humanities Festival Will Explore ANIMAL: What Makes Us Human, 11/1-10

The Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) presents the 24th annual Fall Festival, with more than 60 events that will explore the theme of ANIMAL: What Makes Us Human, Nov. 1-10 at venues across Chicago. This year's presenters include political consultant and former Senior Advisor to President Obama David Axelrod, revolutionary chef, restaurateur and TV personality Rick Bayless, celebrated author of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and Eating Animals Jonathan Safran Foer, autism activist and author Temple Grandin, 59 Grand Slam title-winning tennis player Martina Navratilova, critically-acclaimed director of Boys Don't Cry and the recently released Carrie remake Kimberly Peirce, author of A Series of Unfortunate Events Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler), author of The Secret History and the newly released novel The Goldfinch Donna Tartt, and many more.

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), the world's first year-round presenter of American tap dance and contemporary percussive arts, honors Mayor Rahm Emanuel with its JUBA! Award at JUBALEE, CHRP's annual gala benefit supporting performance, education and community programs that reach more than 20,000 people every year. This special evening, hosted by broadcast legend and civic leader Bill Kurtis, takes place October 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.

Chicago Shakespeare Launches 2013/14 Season with Gala 2013 Celebration in June

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) launches the 2013/14 Season with Gala 2013 on June 17 at its home on Navy Pier. Funds raised will benefit the Regional Theatre Tony Award recipient's education and civic engagement initiatives, including Team Shakespeare and Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks. Through the generosity of Gala Lead Sponsor the Donna Van Eekeren Foundation, the support of the Gala 2013 Host Committee, and the advocacy of CST's Board of Directors, the Theater anticipates raising over one million dollars in support of its continuing work in Chicago's schools and communities. A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the third annual Spirit of Shakespeare Awards. This year's Civic Honoree is former Mayor Richard M. Daley and the Artistic Honoree is composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Both honorees will be in attendance to accept their award. Gala 2013 will also feature performances by Broadway stars Jason Danieley, who triumphed in CST's production ofSunday in the Park with George earlier this season, and Marin Mazzie, who was recently seen opposite Danieley in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical Next to Normal.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater Announces 2013/14 Season

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) Artistic Director Barbara Gaines and Executive Director Criss Henderson announced today CST's 2013/14 Season, which includes William Shakespeare's popular comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor, directed by Artistic Director Barbara Gaines; Shakespeare's epic history play Henry V, staged by acclaimed British director Christopher Luscombe; and Edmond Rostand's classic romance Cyrano de Bergerac, directed by Penny Metropulos and featuring Harry Groener (CST's The Madness of George III, Jeff Award) in the title role.

More than two million patrons have experienced 127 productions and presentations from an aesthetic and culturally diverse group of artists and companies-including nearly 30 world premieres, of which 25 were new-work commissions-and programs over the past decade.
