Playwrights Foundation, the West Coast’s premier launchpad for exceptional new plays and playwrights, has announced the semifinalists and finalists for the 45th Bay Area Playwrights Festival (BAPF), which will be presented as a hybrid (in-person and streamed) festival July 29-August 07, 2022. NAATCO (National Asian American Theatre Company) is presenting the world premiere production of OUT OF TIME at The Public Theater. OUT OF TIME is written by Jaclyn Backhaus, Sam Chanse, Mia Chung, Naomi Iizuka, and Anna Ouyang Moench, Commissioned and Produced by NAATCO, and Conceived and Directed by Les Waters. This world premiere opened just last night and runs through Sunday, March 13.
Marc Shaiman to Write the Score For Billy Eichner's BROS

Hairspray Tony-winner Marc Shaiman will score Billy Eichner's new gay rom-com. Shaiman has also written the score for films like South Park, The First Wives Club, The American President, Sleepless in Seattle, Broadcast News, When Harry Met Sally, Beaches, City Slickers, The Addams Family, A Few Good Men, Sister Act, and George of the Jungle.

Harvey Fierstein has joined the cast of Bros, co-written and starring Billy Eichner. Featuring an all LGBTQIA+ cast, Bros has also added SNL star Bowen Yang. Previously announced for the film are Jim Rash, Eve Lindley, D’Lo Srijaerajah, Peter Kim, Justin Covington, Dot-Marie Jones and Becca Blackwell.

Normal Ave will launch its 2nd Annual NAPSeries (Normal Ave Playwrights Series) with 29-hour readings of four brand new plays. This year's festival will include Men Accumulate by Peter Kim George, On Trash Monsters by Gillian Beth Durkee, Sarah Sits Shiva for Herself by Megan Pope, and Seven Letter Names by Kristian O'Hare. All readings will take place January 10-12 at Normal Ave's Medicine Show Theatre, located at 549 W 52nd Street, and are free and open to the public.
