Currently celebrating its 25th anniversary season, Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company announced today the public phase of the company's 25th Birthday Gift Campaign. The campaign aims to raise funds to provide a more comfortable and fulfilling audience experience and provide theater artists with a better environment in which to do their work. Aurora Theatre Company presents the West Coast Premiere of Keith Josef Adkins'SAFE HOUSE. African-American Shakespeare Company Artistic Director L. Peter Callender, who appeared in the Aurora Theatre Company productions of "Master Harold…and the boys," Breakfast With Mugabe, The Soldier's Tale, and Permanent Collection, makes his Aurora directing debut with SAFE HOUSE, featuring Lance Gardner, David Everett Moore, Dawn L. Troupe, Cassidy Brown, Jamella Lagara Cross, and Dezi Soley. SAFE HOUSE plays November 4 through December 4at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. Aurora Theatre Company announces the company's newest Originate + Generate (O+G) artist commission, Christopher Chen. Chen has been commissioned for the company's 25th anniversary season to create a new play specifically for the Aurora stage; the working title for the new piece is Secretary of State. As with current O+G artists Jonathan Spector(The State of Nature) and Beth Wilmurt (Cabaret Olga), Chen will have the opportunity to create new work via a process of his own devising and will receive financial support in the form of a $5000 grant. During the O+G creation process, audiences will be invited to attend various workshops and presentations as well as a series of pop-up readings by other theater makers.
