Theatre Pro Rata is producing By the Bog of Cats written by Marina Carr at The Crane Theater this March under the direction of Amber Bjork.

While the band was initially formed in the late 70s by Drew Arnott, Darryl Kromm, and Paul Iverson, the lineup would shake into its current existence of Arnott joined by Ian Cameron, Ross Friesen, Rob Bailey, Sean Dillon, and Alexander (A-Train) Boynton. Listen to the new single now!

The second annual edition of Getting Graphic: Novels, Memoirs & Comics, will take place at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey on December 1, from 12-7 PM. Incredibly popular last year, this free event for all ages will feature graphic novelists, graphic memoirists, and comic book artists showcasing and discussing their work, signing books, and selling merchandise at tables set up throughout the Art Center. Many of you may be familiar with The Woman in Black due to it being the second longest running play in London's West End (twenty-nine years strong), or perhaps you were pretty spooked by the 2012 film starring Daniel Radcliffe. However you were lured to see this production, Susan Hill's and Stephen Mallatratt's simple masterpiece of a true English horror story, one without gore or unnecessary violence, really makes for quite an intriguing production. Directed by Damian Baldet, who appeared in last season's Outside Mullingar, Cape Rep's The Woman in Black tests our mental reflexes as the battle between belief and disbelief ensues - as the senses are both heightened and chilled by the story surrounding this mysterious woman who haunts and kills, and who is scaring more than just the superstitious townspeople.

Cape Rep's 2016 season continues with The Woman in Black, by Stephen Mallatratt and Susan Hill. This classic ghost story is the second longest running play in London's West End. Arthur Kipps, a middle-aged solicitor, is tortured by an episode from his past when, while settling the estate of an elderly recluse, he is visited by a woman in black, a figure who terrifies the locals. He hires an actor and a theater to help him reenact his experience, and exorcise the specter that haunts his life.

The History Theatre in St. Paul is committed to bringing new plays and musicals to the stage, usually inspired by true events in Minnesota history. Their yearly Raw Stages festival, a series of workshops and readings of new works, often results in full productions in the following season or two. But I often wonder, what happens next? After a new play or musical is developed, produced, and well-received, where does it go? In the case of 2001's WATERMELON HILL, it comes back again 15 years later. As much as I love seeing new works of theater on History Theatre's stage, I'm thrilled that they brought this wonderful old new work back to the stage, giving it a fresh new production. Inspired by historical events, WATERMELON HILL tells the stories of three young women in the mid '60s, pregnant and unmarried, sent in shame to St. Paul's Catholic Infant Home to wait out their pregnancies, deliver their babies, give them up for adoption, and then leave and never look back. Surprisingly light and funny for such a somber topic, the play brings light to the all too familiar tale of the challenges and lack of education and choices facing women in the past, and perhaps to a lesser extant, even today. Along with THE HOW AND THE WHY and NINA SIMONE: FOUR WOMEN, it's another fantastic choice of theater to present during Women's History Month.

The Twin Cities area is well known as a great theater town, so it is a fitting home to one of the nation's most celebrated new play festivals. The 32nd annual PlayLabs festival runs October 12-18 at the Playwrights' Center, a 44-year-old organization that is one of just a handful of play development centers in the country.   

Is it the role or the actor that lives on through history? In DRAMATIS PERSONAE Kristopher Lee Bicknell gives a tour-de-force performance starting out as a modern actor dressed in stage blacks, going through his warm-up exercises to great classical music as the audience is seated. The actor brings both a genuine respect and a passionate portrayal to a series of selected pieces, both deeply dramatic and side-splittingly funny. The result is a revelation for audiences, a bravura performance of surprising wit, subtlety, passion, and heartbreaking vulnerability by Bicknell.

Meanwhile, Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) and Sean (Dillon Casey) are tasked with investigating who, inside Division, is behind a mutiny that ends in bloodshed. Aaron Stanford and Noah Bean also star. Dwight Little directed the episode written by Oliver Grigsby (#316).- (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET). 'Tipping Point' airs Friday, April 5 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
