Dances With Film aka DWF:LA is about to unleash its 26th annual independent film festival from June 22-July 2 at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood. 

Durango PlayFest has announced four new works that will headline its 5th annual play development festival, June 28 - July 2. PlayFest's mission is to bring well-known and emerging playwrights, directors and actors to Durango to incubate new plays, hold free events for the community, and culminate the week with captivating, staged readings for local audiences.

Next up at the Geffen Playhouse, the west coast premiere of playwright Fernanda Coppel’s King Liz opening July 21, 2022 (previews already begun). I had the opportunity to throw out a few questions to Fernanda about King Liz, as well as her writing career.

Starz, a Lionsgate company (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B), has created a worldwide hit in its latest STARZ Original series 'Hightown.'

Two venerable Los Angeles intimate theaters will each host a Mueller Report Read-A-Thon, offering Angelenos the opportunity to hear the Mueller Report read aloud, in its entirety, on either side of the City. The Fountain Theatre in East Hollywood will host a single, 15-hour event on Thursday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to midnight. The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West L.A. will hold a separate marathon reading, breaking it up into two 8-hour sessions on Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23, each from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission to both Read-A-thons is free and open to the public.

James Badge Dale has been cast as the male lead in Hightown, Starz's drama series from Rebecca Cutter, Gary Lennon and Jerry Bruckheimer TV. According to Deadline, Dale will star opposite Monica Raymund.

 Malibu Playhouse presents "The Guys," by Anne Nelson, a reading tribute to firefighters, Friday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m., starring Ray Abruzzo (SOPRANOS, TRANSPARENT) and Wendie Malick (HOT IN CLEVELAND), directed by Dan Lauria. A portion of the proceeds from this benefit for the Playhouse will be donated to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 'The Guys," is the story of an editor and a Fire Chief coming together in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy to write the eulogies for 8 of the men lost in the rescue.
