When Patrick Cox left the world of the fire service for retirement, he felt compelled to pursue a new career as an author. Building on his experience as a technical author, he has followed his interests in naval history into the world of fiction. The author of several works of fiction, Patrick's newest book, 'Harry Heron: Into the Unknown' (paperback ISBN 978-0-9860953-9-9, ebook ISBN 978-0-9860953-3-7), follows the flagship book in the series, 'Harry Heron: Midshipman's Journey,' taking the reader from a sea battle between the British and the French in the southern Indian Ocean into a future war in space. A freak accident on board the HMS Spartan catapults Midshipman Harry Heron and his shipmates Ferghal O'Connor and Danny Gunn four hundred years into the future, landing them on the NECS Vanguard, flagship of the World Treaty Organisation Fleet. The three youths must adapt quickly to a new age filled with unfamiliar technology, and just as they have found their footing, they are called upon to assist the Fleet in a rescue mission on the planet Pangaea, giving them the opportunity to prove that their unique skills from the past are still very relevant in the far distant future. Cox says, 'This story combines my love of British naval history, particularly of the sailing navy of Nelson and characters such as Hornblower, Bolitho, and Ramage, with the inspired future worlds envisioned by Asimov, Clark, and Heinlein. It allows me to explore the value of rudimentary sailing and navigational skills no matter what era one finds oneself in.' Born in Cape Town and educated at Selborne College in East London, South Africa, Patrick G. Cox is a published technical author and lecturer, and a retired firefighter after thirty-six years of soot, heat, blood, sweat, and laughter. He is a Licensed Minister in the Church of England, has three adult children and one new little granddaughter of whom he is enormously proud, and is the author of A Baltic Affair, Limehouse Boys, and Harry Heron: Midshipman's Journey, the first book in the Harry Heron Adventure Series. Bookstores and organizations may purchase bulk quantities of the paperback version of Harry Heron: Into the Unknown from Lightning Source/Ingram at a 50 percent wholesale discount. Neil Patrick Harris, Penn & Teller, JoAnne Worley, Tippi Hedren, Richard Sherman, and Magic Castle co-founder's Milt Larsen and Irene Larsen were all on hand Friday, October 24th, 2008 for the unveiling of the refurbished Star on the Walk of Fame dedicated to the earliest and still often most recognized illusionist of stage and screen - MR. HARRY HOUDINI.
Neil Patrick Harris, Penn & Teller, JoAnne Worley, Tippi Hedren, Richard Sherman, and Magic Castle co-founder's Milt Larsen and Irene Larsen were all on hand Friday, October 24th, 2008 for the unveiling of the refurbished Star on the Walk of Fame dedicated to the earliest and still often most recognized illusionist of stage and screen - MR. Siegfried Fischbacher, Neil Patrick Harris and Magic Castle co-founder Milt Larsen will unveil the newly renovated star of history's most famous illusionist - Harry Houdini. Among those contributing to the restoration include top magicians such as: David Copperfield, Lance Burton, Tihany, Marvyn Roy (Mr. Electric), as well as Siegfried and Roy.
