Full casting has been announced for Promethean Theatre Ensemble's production of James Goldman's The Lion in Winter, according to Brian Pastor, director of this production and artistic director of the company. Leading the cast as King Henry II of England and his wife Eleanor of Acquitaine, the roles immortalized by Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn in the 1968 film version, will be Brian Parry and Elaine Carlson. Parry, a Jeff award winner for supporting actor in Redtwist's Shining City, is a four-time Jeff Award nominee and recently earned raves for his portrayal of George in Redtwist's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf along with his roles in Redtwist's Red and the currently playing The Drawer Boy. Parry has previously appeared with Promethean in The Lark. Carlson was a Jeff winner for Famous Door's Salt of the Earth and was seen recently in Eclipse's A Perfect Ganesh. She has performed previously with Promethean in Tiger at the Gates and A Study in Scarlet.

Promethean Theatre Ensemble has announced the first play of our ninth season, William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. One of Shakespeare's final plays, The Winter's Tale has been labeled many things: a romance, a "Problem Play," or as we like to call it, a Greek Tragedy with a happy ending. But at its core, this play is about things we witness every day as 21st Century Americans: pride, jealousy, penance and forgiveness. The heart of The Winter's Tale is Leontes' journey from blind rage to ultimate redemption. To bring that journey to life, director Brian Pastor and his crew will draw on images and ideas from diverse periods of history, utilizing elements both ancient and modern.

Shakespeare, Jean Anouilh and Tom Stoppard will be featured in Promethean Theatre Ensemble's eighth season as they present Something Wicked This Way Comes: An Evening of Shakespeare; The Lark; and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

A Study in Scarlet will be adapted and directed by Paul Edwards. The company will feature PTE Ensemble Members David Fink, Nick Lake, and Brian Pastor. Bell St. in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, tonight, February 26 through April 7, 2013. Press night is Thursday, February 28 at 8:00 p.m.
