For its tenth annual summer production of free Shakespeare in Chicago’s parks (one each year since 2012, except for the pandemic years of 2020-2021), Midsommer Flight will perform the romantic and fantastical adventure CYMBELINE.

Howard St. Previews are Saturday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30 at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.

Full cast and crew have been announced for Midsommer Flight’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, to be performed free in five Chicago Parks District parks from July 15 – August 21. The company’s Founding Artistic Director Beth Wolf (she/her/hers), will direct the magical play.

Babes With Blades Theatre Company (BWBTC) returns to live performances with its 2022 season and its presentation of William Shakespeare’s Richard III, in partnership with the University of Illinois Chicago’s Disability Cultural Center and directed by Richard Costes, August 25 – October 15, at The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway Ave, with select performances being live streamed.

Promethean Theatre Ensemble will return from its pandemic hiatus with a modern dress storefront production of Shakespeare's epic RICHARD III. The play will be directed by Steve Scott, an Artistic Associate with the Goodman Theatre, where he most recently directed VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE.

First Folio Theatre will present Jane Austen's EMMA by Phil Timberlake, previewing March 23rd, 24th, and 25th, opening March 26th, and running through April 24th, 2022.

Babes With Blades Theatre Company announced today that the world premiere of  Plaid as Hell, written by Cat McKay (she/her/hers), originally scheduled for January 29 - March 5, at The Factory Theater, 1623 W. Howard St, will be postponed with the new dates of the production to be announced. 

First Folio Theatre will present the World Premiere of Agatha Christie’s The Secret Council, adapted by David Rice. The show will preview January 26th - 28th, open January 29th, and run through February 27th, 2022.

Plaid as Hell, the winner of the BWBTC's Biennial International Playwriting Competition Joining Sword & Pen and The Margaret W. Martin Award, is an honest, slightly raunchy, queer comedy which introduces us to Cass, who is hoping her annual camping trip will go well this year.  But with her best friend Emilie sniping at Cass's new girlfriend Jessica, not to mention the serial killer on the loose, the weekend is off to a rocky start.

Midsommer Flight, a company that has been presenting high quality, accessible productions of Shakespeare’s plays in Chicago’s parks since 2012, today announced a series of three virtual panel discussions addressing some of the theatre industry’s most challenging topics, to be held on three successive Tuesdays in February 2021.

With the conclusion of the 2019-2020 Chicago non-Equity theater season, the Jeff Awards announced the nominees for the 47th annual awards for theater excellence that include 120 theater artists across 21 categories.
