Mary Barton

Mary Barton founded one of the first fertility clinics. She pioneered artificial insemination and worked within the confined of tabooed subjects, coming in aid of those married couples who were unable to conceive a child and going as far as destroying medical records in order to help them. Her husband, Dr Bertold Wiesner, was probably the main sperm donor and he's thought to have fathered many of the 1,500 children born thanks to Barton.

American Repertory Ballet (ARB) returns to The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th Street between Park and Lexington avenues) for one night only with a sensational triple bill on Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. The program, "American Made: Works by Paul Taylor, Mary Barton and Kirk Peterson," showcases the company's strength and versatility. 

Artistic Director Tom Littler has announced casting for the world premiere of Mary's Babies. Two of Britain's best-known classical actors, Emma Fielding and Katy Stephens, will co-star in Maud Dromgoole's funny and compelling play about family and fertility.

So Mary used her husband's sperm to impregnate up to a thousand women, and then burnt all the records. A thousand resulting children, the 'Barton Brood', have no idea about their shared father. State Theatre New Jersey presents American Repertory Ballet's Nutcracker for five performances on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 7:30pm; Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2pm & 7pm; and Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 1pm & 5pm.
