BWW Reviews: PIPPIN helps Weathervane find its corner in the sky

Perhaps the Weathervane Playhouse couldn't have found a better way to close out its 50th anniversary season than finishing the summer session with PIPPIN. Written by Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, CHILDREN OF EDEN and GODSPELL), the two-act, two-and-a-half-hour musical tells the story of Pippin (Kenneth Remaklus), a prince who longs to find meaning in his life.

BWW Reviews: Weathervane's MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG dissects the death of friendships

In his review of the debut of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG in 1981, New York Times critic Frank Rich wrote, 'As we all should have probably learned by now, to be a Stephen Sondheim fan is to have one's heart broken at regular intervals.'

BWW Reviews: Edgy AVENUE Q finds its place on Newark's GPS

Weathervane Playhouse managing artistic director Kevin Connell had a sense of trepidation leading up to the July 27 opening night for AVENUE Q. It also may be the only Weathervane production to rhyme the lines 'We'll be fine, thank you! See ya' with 'Hope you don't get gonorrhea.'

BWW Reviews: Madcap COMEDY OF TENORS a comedic tour de farce

BWW Review: MAMMA MIA May Induce 70s Flashbacks

As a diehard rock and roll fan of groups like the Rolling Stones and the Who, I have been harboring a deep, dark secret. The second album I bought growing up was ABBA's Gold. The quartet, which was Sweden's second largest export next to Volvo, had a knack for producing hum-worthy harmonies and catchy choruses that stick in your subconscious for months and months to come.

It's 1985. Reagan is backing a culture of ruthless self-interest. The cold war is ending. The ozone layer is melting. New Yorkers are learning how to survive a plague. It's at this tipping point that the great work begins.
