MOMMA JUNK Set for Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre, 2/22-23


Abingdon Theatre Company's Pop Up Playhouse offers a special staged reading of the new puppet play MOMMA JUNK by John Trevellini to be presented at 11am on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23 in Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Jules Ochoa (How I Fell in Love) directs this family-friendly reading, which is FREE and open to the public.

Pop Up Playhouse, Abingdon Theatre's reading series for family audiences, continues in 2013 with SMALL FISH, a new puppet operetta, today, January 5, at 11 a.m. at Abingdon Theatre Company, 312 West 36th Street, 1st floor, between 8th and 9th Avenues. SMALL FISH features music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls, The Tap Dance Kid); libretto and puppets by Susan J. Vitucci; direction by Jules Ochoa (How I Fell in Love); and musical direction by Ben Krauss.

Pop Up Playhouse, Abingdon Theatre's reading series for family audiences, continues in 2013 with SMALL FISH, a new puppet operetta, on Saturday, January 5, at 11 a.m. at Abingdon Theatre Company, 312 West 36th Street, 1st floor, between 8th and 9th Avenues. Tickets are free.

Abingdon Theatre Honors Rob Winn Anderson with 2012 Christopher Brian Wolk Award for THE TENTH SON Tonight


Abingdon Theatre Company, in an ongoing effort to recognize excellence in playwriting, established the Christopher Brian Wolk Award to be presented annually to an American writer of a full-length play not produced in New York City. The award is based upon the writer's demonstrated ability to reach a mature artistic vision using theatre. Playwright Rob Winn Anderson will receive the $1,000 cash award and a staged reading of his script The Tenth Son, directed by Jules Ochoa, at the award ceremony, tonight, December 10, starting at 7:00PM in the June Havoc Theatre, 312 West 36th Street, Midtown, Manhattan.

Schooled stars Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Playwrights Horizon's Circle Mirror Transformation), Sarah Steele (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's Slowgirl), Harry Zittel (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's All-American) and Zoe Winters (Lincoln Center Theatre/LCT3's 4000 Miles). Jan Buttram's LOST ON THE NATCHEZ TRACE swept the recent 6th Annual Ab*ie Award ceremony garnering seven of the eight awards. Voted outstanding play, LOST ON THE NATCHEZ TRACE also took bows for outstanding male actor (Peter Brouwer) and direction, Kate Bushmann. Outstanding design awards went to Andrew Lu (set), Travis McHale (lighting), Catherine Siracusa and Sidney Levitt (co-costume design), and David M. Lawson (sound).
