CAP UCLA Presents A NOT SO SILENT NIGHT - VIRTUALLY TOGETHER


UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) in collaboration with Town Hall NYC, City Winery and Southbank Centre will present ‘A Not So Silent Night – Virtually Together,’ the beloved Christmas show from siblings Rufus, Martha and Lucy Wainwright.

Rufus Wainwright to Release Limited Edition EP on Record Store Day


Rufus Wainwright is set to release an A/B side 7' EP, Come A Little Bit Closer, on November 29, Record Store Day Black Friday. The limited edition EP arrives ahead of Wainwright's forthcoming 2020 album via BMG, and consists of two live performances of Neil Young's 'Harvest Moon' and Arcade Fire's 'Crown of Love.' Come A Little Bit Closer will be available exclusively at participating RSD Black Friday record stores, found here.

The Music Center Honored Joni Mitchell with Two Sold Out Concerts


Honoring one of the world's most revered artists, The Music Center celebrated Joni Mitchell on November 6 and 7, 2018, with two all-star concerts - JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - and an exclusive gala, co-hosted with Vanity Fair and its editor Radhika Jones, which feted her 75th birthday and raised funds for The Music Center's artistic programming, specifically free and low cost programming for underserved communities. The concerts featured performances by Brandi Carlile; Glen Hansard; Emmylou Harris; Norah Jones; Chaka Khan; Diana Krall; Kris Kristofferson; Los Lobos with La Marisoul, Cesar Castro & Xochi Flores; Graham Nash; Seal; James Taylor; and Rufus Wainwright. The artists lit up the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion stage performing Mitchell's songs, which spanned all stages of her career. Co-musical directors Brain Blade and Jon Cowherd provided the evenings' musical arrangements.  

The Music Center to Present JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion


The Music Center has added James Taylor, Brandi Carlile and Scarlet Rivera to the previously announced powerful line-up of singers and musicians who will honor Joni Mitchell on her 75th birthday as part of JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion* on November 6 and 7, 2018.  James Taylor and Brandi Carlile will join Glen Hansard, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Kris Kristofferson, Los Lobos, Graham Nash, Seal, and Rufus Wainwright to perform songs from Mitchell's prolific career.  Scarlet Riverawill be a featured guest member of the band.  Co-musical directors providing the musical arrangements for the evenings are drummer Brian Blade, who recorded three studio albums and toured extensively with Mitchell, and, pianist, composer, arranger producer Jon Cowherd.  The Music Center's Artistic Advisor Jorn Weisbrodt is the creator of the two evenings, and Danny Kapilian is the music producer.

 The Music Center announced it will present two star-studded concerts, JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on November 6 and November 7, 2018, featuring an incredible array of singers and musicians who will honor one of the world's most remarkable artists, Joni Mitchell, on her 75th birthday.  On both nights, Glen Hansard, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Chaka Khan, Diana Krall, Kris Kristofferson, Los Lobos, Graham Nash, Seal, and Rufus Wainwright, will perform songs from all stages of Mitchell's life and career, across the entire oeuvre of her 19 studio albums.  Co-musical directors, providing the musical arrangements for the evenings, are drummer Brian Blade, who recorded three studio albums and toured extensively with Mitchell, and, pianist, composer, arranger producer Jon Cowherd. 

The Music Center to Present the Los Angeles Premiere of Max Richter's SLEEP


The Music Center announced it will present the Los Angeles premiere of the live overnight performance of Max Richter's SLEEP, one of the longest single pieces of classical music ever to be recorded and performed, in Grand Park on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, 2018.  Following its recent successes in New York City and at SXSW, along with performances in London, Berlin and Sydney among others, SLEEP will be performed outdoors for the first time as the first overnight event to be held at Grand Park, Los Angeles County's highly popular gathering space.  Cots will replace traditional seating to allow attendees to fully immerse themselves in the eight-hour experience.  The concert, featuring Richter playing the piano and keyboard along with the musicians on the 2015 Deutsche Grammophon recording of the work, American Contemporary Music Ensemble and soprano Grace Davidson, will begin at 10:30 p.m. on both Friday andSaturday evenings and conclude at 6:30 a.m. the following mornings.  The Music Center Presents Max Richter's SLEEP is supported by the Ring-Miscikowski Foundation/The Ring Foundation.

This month, Luminato Festival presents Apocalypsis, the epic musical voyage written by acclaimed Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer, in one of the largest performance events Toronto has ever seen. 1,000 performers from across Ontario create an empire of sound and movement under the direction of Lemi Ponifasio of MAU, with musical direction by Toronto conductor David Fallis (The Toronto Consort, Opera Atelier) and light by Helen Todd (MAU).

Featuring solo performances from multi-disciplinary artist Nina Arsenault, Tony Award-winner Brent Carver, dancer Denise Fujiwara, Polaris Prize-winner Tanya Tagaq, rising New Zealand opera star Kawiti Waetford, and the voice of renowned performance artist Laurie Anderson, the Luminato-commissioned production is on stage at the Sony Centre (1 Front St. E.) from June 26 to 28.  

Clyde Wagner Named New Executive Producer of Luminato Festival


The Luminato Festival announced today that Clyde Wagner has been named Executive Producer for the Festival. Mr. Wagner will commence in the role at the beginning of August.

TSO to Close 2013-14 Season with Light Classics Program Featuring Ravel, Copland, Gershwin and More


In the final month of the 2013/2014 season, TSO musicians will claim the spotlight in an engaging Light Classics programme that includes the electrifying crescendo of Ravel's famous Bolero and Brahms's merry medley of German student songs. Led by RBC Resident Conductor Shalom Bard, Niccolo Paganini's Sonata per la gran viola will provide the dazzling showpiece for Principal Viola Teng Li, while Principal Oboe Sarah Jeffrey will steal the spotlight in Calla Lilies by Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich.

Program details for the Toronto-based Luminato festival, now in its eighth year, were unveiled Tuesday morning in a packed room at the modern MaRS Discovery Centre. Heralded by a Brazilian drum corps, Luminato's moustachioed Artistic Director Jorn Weisbrodt made his entrance, shyly smiling and shaking hands as he made his way up the aisle, before introducing a comprehensive look at this year's festival.
