Not-for-profit History Matters: Celebrating Women's Plays Of The Past has announced its winner for the 2022 Judith Barlow Prize. The annual Judith Barlow Prize is awarded to a student playwright for an exceptional one-act play inspired by the work of an historic female playwright. The winner of the prize receives a $2,500 award and a reading of their work, with a $500 award to the participating professor.

Formerly known as History Matters/Back to the Future, the beloved nonprofit has rebranded as History Matters: Celebrating Women's Plays of the Past. History Matters promotes the study and production of women's plays from the past in colleges, universities, and theatres throughout the country.

The student winner of the prize receives a $2,500 award and a reading of their work in New York City, with a $500 award to the professor of the course in which the inspiring play was taught.

WP Theater, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Lisa McNulty and Managing Director Michael Sag, is thrilled to announce the inaugural WP Theater's 40th Anniversary Reading Series. In the first outing of this annual series, past meets present as WP shares staged readings of five extraordinary plays from throughout its history, directed by recent alums and current members of the WP Theater Directors Lab. The 5-night free series will launch on Monday, March 25 and run through Friday, May 3, 2019 at WP Theater, 2162 Broadway at 76th Street.

Not-for- profit History Matters/Back to the Future has announced the winner of their prestigious annual Judith Barlow Prize: Audrey Webb, who is currently pursuing a graduate degree at Texas State University.

Steve Umberger, director of Charlotte Rep's ANGELS IN AMERICA in 1996, which drew a firestorm of controversy, is back directing a provocative new play, THE CHRISTIANS. This play, set in a megachurch, revolves around a pastor who challenges his congregation with a radical new definition of faith.

Not-for-profit History Matters/Back to the Future has announced the winner of their prestigious annual Judith Barlow Prize - Kara Jobe - an Ohio-based student, currently at Otterbein University who wrote a one-act play inspired by Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour.

The Judith Barlow Prize will award $2,500 annually to a student playwright of a one-act play inspired by the work of an historic woman playwright whom she/he has studied. In addition, a $1000 prize will be awarded to the runner up and a $500 prize will be awarded to the winning student's professor who participated in the One Play at a Time initiative.

Veanne Cox and Doug Wamble lead a musical tribute to lyricist Dorothy Fields. Also on hand throughout the evening were presenters David Hyde Pierce and Stanley Zareff. Check out a look back below!

History Matters/Back to the Future will present FORGOTTEN TREASURERS: An Evening of Scenes by Historic Women Playwrights Read by Luminaries of Stage, Film, and Television. The performance will take place at 7:00pm on Monday, February 17th at The Helen Mills Theatre 139 West 26th Street (between 7th and 6th Avenues). Tickets are by invitation only.
