It's been over a decade since Fela! first took Broadway by storm, and still, in 2020, its cast is united and making a difference. Oneika Phillips, who starred in the 2012 return engagement, put out a call to her cast mates to come together for the #DontRush Challenge. 'It evolved into an even more meaningful project with layers of celebration such as aligning with the ten-year anniversary of the show's 11 Tony nominations, including Sahr as Fela and Lillias White as Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. Giants of Generosity, a Bergen County-based charitable organization, in partnership with Gunter Wilhelm Cutlery was sponsored by BMW of Tenafly, and Doug Singer of Daily Food & Wine, Chef Maneet Chauhan's manager. The two-day Celebrity Food & Wine Show was held on Saturday, March 8th and Sunday, March 9th at the Clinton Inn Hotel, 145 Dean Drive in Tenafly, N.J. Featured guest, Chef Maneet Chauhan, author, restaurateur, and a judge on the Food Network's "Chopped" program demonstrated her cooking style as the audience got to sample her Malai chicken sliders prepared by the chefs of Palmer's Crossing at the Clinton Inn. Executive Chef Guy Mitchell, producer of the White House Chef Tours emceed a two-chef, culinary student cook-off competition, and ABC Eyewitness News Anchor Ken Rosato welcomed the crowd. This two-day event included multiple sessions for the general public to take part in the Grand Tasting with dozens of local restaurant fare and wine tastings. The guests enjoyed the cooking competitions and culinary workshops, while accompanied by live music from The Tim Gysin Band, Acute Inflections featuring Elasea Douglas and Sadiki, and also the NJ Gordon Band. A good time was had by all.
Dare to Go Beyond (D2GB) Children's Performing Arts Camp, an initiative of R.Evolucion Latina, successfully ended its run on Friday August 2nd. More than 200 kids, ages 7-17, gathered at the headquarters of Pearl Studio to share their experiences, learn to dance, sing and narrate their stories in creative ways and with a fascinating focus: Cultural Exchange. R.Evolucion Latina received a record breaking number of applications for the 6th Annual Dare to Go Beyond (D2GB) Children's Performing Arts Camp, scheduled for July 29th-August 2nd in New York City. After evaluating applications, over 200 children from schools, organizations and individual applicants from underserved communities have been selected to take classes in acting, voice, music and dance.
More than a dozen Broadway and International Artists, including cast members from hit shows The Lion King, Fela, Bring It On, Book of Mormon, and the original productions of In The Heights, Swing! and Kiss of the Spider Woman, among others, will donate their time as volunteer teachers for R.Evolución Latina's 5th Annual Dare to Go Beyond (D2GB) Children's Performing Arts Camp, scheduled for today, July 16-July 20.
