The year is 1858. Charlotte Cushman, renowned performer in the US and abroad, plays male roles onstage as often as female roles, and prefers them. Strand Theater Company produces Barbara Kahn's script, which is built for humor, and spotlights an underappreciated American heroine. This female-centric production is triumphant queer comic theater.
'The Lady Was a Gentleman' is a docu-comedy about the 19th century lesbian actress Charlotte Cushman (spouse of sculptor Emma Stebbins, who designed Central Park's Bethesda Fountain).
TOSOS ("The Other Side of Silence") is dedicated to preserving the theatrical heritage of the LGBT community through the development of new plays by emerging artists as well as revivals of established works. Our productions honestly explore the unique LGBT experience and cultural sensibilities in a life-affirming and respectful way. TOSOS was originally formed in 1974 by playwright Doric Wilson. During its five-year existence, this first TOSOS featured new plays and revivals by playwrights from Brendan Behan and Noel Coward to Terrence McNally, Robert Patrick, Martin Sherman, and Lanford Wilson.

On Thursday, June 28th, Los Angeles theatre lovers were given a gift of a very rare and unique experience that took them back in time, when the Broadway theatre scene in downtown Los Angeles used to rival that of New York's Great White Way. On December 16, 2011 International Tenor Karl Scully performed at St. Patrick Church, Bay Shore, NY. This concert was the 25th Anniversary Concert celebrating the founding of The Hibernian Festival Singers and was a benefit for the parish.
Karl Scully has graced the international opera stages in Italy in Orvietto at the Teatro Mancinelli and as resident tenor at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Italy . He has performed most recently at the Barga Opera Festival in 2010. Not to be confined to one avenue to showcase his musical talent, Karl Scully appeared with Ewan McGregor in the film 'Nora' as he portrayed the legendary tenor Count John McCormack. In 2006, Mr. Scully joined the sensational international group 'The Irish Tenors', and starred in their television show 'The Irish Tenors and Friends'.
