BWW Review: A Great Girls Night Was Had By All at Jaeb Theatre At Straz Center For The Performing Arts


Last night was girl's night at Jaeb Theater. A couple hundred ladies (and a few of their poor ill-prepared boyfriends and husbands) and I shared in the engagement party of Sharon's daughter Candy Rose. Though we never actually met Candy Rose, like a real ladies' night, there was booze, dancing, karaoke and a walk down memory lane.

Where else to present a concert version of a new, original Broadway musical titled "Song Of Solomon than at the Actors' Temple. The historic building, constructed in 1923, has been designated a national landmark and the synagogue has been home to many of the greats in show business. Some of it's members and congregants were Al Jolson, Edward G. Robinson, Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Henny Youngman, Eddie Cantor and countless other lesser-known actors, comedians, singers, playwrights, composers, musicians, writers, dancers and theatrical agents. Academy Award winner Shelley Winters kept the High Holy Days in the Actors Temple. as well as The Three Stooges, and Harpo Marx who attended services. Ed Sullivan, whose wife Sylvia Weinstein was Jewish, was also a member.

SONG OF SOLOMON's Luis Salgado Wins the Best Director at the 2014 NYC Thespis Festival


Director/Choreographer Luis Salgado won the Best Director award last night (September 5) at the closing ceremony of the 2014 NYC Thespis Festival. Salgado was chosen out of the forty-one other shows that were part of the festival this year for his direction of Song of Solomon.

ROCKY's Luis Salgado to Direct SONG OF SOLOMON at NYC Thespis Festival


The World Premier of Song of Solomon starts rehearsals today. Created by: Andrew Beall & Neil Van Leeuwen Song of Solomon is a tragic, epic romance, based on the Biblical Song of Songs. Set in ancient Israel, we follow the secret romance between King Solomon and a brilliant young vineyard girl, Almah, who inspires the most famous love poetry of all time. The stakes are Solomon's life, the woman he loves, and the fate of Israel.'

Pace Performing Arts Presents DANCE OUT LOUD, 4/20-21


Pace Performing Arts presents 'Dance Out Loud 2012,' conceived and directed by Rhonda Miller, director of Performing Arts' Commercial Dance Program. The event stars more than 50 Performing Arts students, with a special appearance by Angelica Salem, Singing Artist/Pace Commercial Dance Student, who will perform her pop song, "We Rock the World.' Click here to watch a video. In addition, Pace faculty member Joshua Dean's 'Dancing in Air,' a Pace First "Bad Boy" aerial number will be featured. Pace is one of the only universities to offer Aerial Arts.
