Colleen Dauncey BIO

Colleen Dauncey is a composer, musician, and singer who has collaborated with lyricist Akiva Romer-Segal on several musicals, including Rumspringa Break!, Going Under, and Bremen Rock City. Colleen & Akiva wrote the score to Prom Queen: The Musical, which was the recipient of the 2016 Stage West Pechet Family Musical Award, and was featured at the 2017 NAMT Festival of New Musicals in New York.

Colleen & Akiva are alumni of Theatre 20’s Composium, Acting Up Stage’s Noteworthy program, the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project at Northwestern University, and the Canadian Music Theatre Project at Sheridan College. Their standalone songs have been performed internationally in Cutting Edge Composers (NYC), Blame Canada (NYC, London, Canada), and more. In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The Grand Theatre has announced that Grow, a musical in development through their COMPASS New Play Development program, has been chosen to participate in the esteemed Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals to be held January 17-19th, 2020 in East Haddam, Connecticut. With only three new musicals included in the program, this announcement marks an incredible opportunity for the Grand, and also for the future of new, Canadian theatre. The Louder We Get (opening on January 28th 2020 at Theatre Calgary's Max Bell Theatre) tells the true story of Marc Hall and the court case that allowed him to take his boyfriend to prom. Premiering for the first time under its new title (previously Prom Queen), the show will be directed by Lonny Price, choreographed by Sean Cheesman, and feature a cast of 40% local artists.
