Goodman Theatre Has Announced Casting For SCHOOL GIRLS and AMERICAN MARIACHI


Goodman Theatre has announced casting for two upcoming Chicago premiere productions in its 2019/2020 Season. Jocelyn Bioh's School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play comes to the Goodman following its acclaimed off-Broadway engagement in a new production directed by Lili-Anne Brown (Lottery Day); and American Mariachi, directed by Goodman Resident Artistic Associate Henry Godinez in a co-production with Dallas Theater Center, featuring live mariachi music on stage. School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play appears March 7 - April 12, 2020; tickets ($20-$70) are on sale now. American Mariachi appears April 25 - May 31; tickets ($20-$70) go on sale February 28 at 10am. Both productions appear in the 856-seat Albert Theatre. Nora's Playhouse to Host Public Reading of WHATDOESFREEMEAN?


Nora's Playhouse is pleased to announce the first public reading of whatdoesfreemean?, a new play by award-winning playwright Catherine Filloux. Developed in collaboration with Nora's Playhouse and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, whatdoesfreemean? takes us into the cell and the mind of its central character, Mary, an African-American woman who is serving time for an undisclosed crime. Her days in solitary confinement are spent trying to keep her sanity in the face of loneliness, indifference, human cruelty, and loss. As she grapples with internal voices that threaten to loosen her grip on reality, anger, outrage, strength, and humor carry Mary through her period of incarceration and beyond.

INTAR to Stage Workshop of Migdalia Cruz's SATYRICONO


INTAR continues its acclaimed 2014 - '15 season with SATYRICOÑO by Migdalia Cruz, a workshop presentation of a new play in development with actors from INTAR's UNIT 52 project, as well as guest artists Annie Henk, David Anzuelo, Bobby Plasencia, and Lisa Ramirez. There will be only three performances, which are open to the public: Friday, June 19th, Saturday June 20th, and Sunday June 21st.

InterAct Theatre Company brings to the stage the world premiere production of A. Zell Williams' Down Past Passyunk, inspired by the controversy stirred up by Philadelphia landmark Geno's Steaks. Working Theater, the 28-year-old Off-Broadway company, in collaboration with Magnum Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving the Magnum Photos legacy and supporting photography around social justice issues, have joined forces to present Ed Cardona, Jr.'s LA RUTA, a world premiere immigration-themed play that will be staged inside the trailer and cab of an actual 48' truck. An accompanying photographic installation about the immigrant experience will also be presented.

Working Theater, the 28-year-old Off-Broadway company, in collaboration with Magnum Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving the Magnum Photos legacy and supporting photography around social justice issues, have joined forces to present Ed Cardona, Jr.'s LA RUTA, a world premiere immigration-themed play that will be staged inside the trailer and cab of an actual 48' truck. An accompanying photographic installation about the immigrant experience will also be presented. This unique collaboration will shed a deeper light on one of today's hot-button issues - immigration reform. Previews begin April 10, 2013 with an official press opening on April 18th. Tamilla Woodard, known for her innovative site-specific work (HOTEL PROJECT), will direct the production. The play will be performed in various communities throughout New York City in order to directly realize Working Theater's mission to bring theater to working people.
