Jillian Walker's THE WHITNEY ALBUM Comes to Soho Rep This Month

Soho Rep presents the world premiere of multidisciplinary theater-maker, musician, and composer Jillian Walker's The Whitney Album. Walker's ritual performance flows between incantation, love lecture, scene, and song as it considers the labor of performance itself and honors the legacy of Whitney Houston and so many other Black women beloved, and consumed, for their art.

BWW Blog: Practical Aesthetics- Getting Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable

Several of my teachers have said, “part of this first year is about getting comfortable being uncomfortable.” Generally, this statement means two things:

BWW Review: A Fantastic and Profound ZERO COST HOUSE by Pig Iron Theatre

Sometimes you just have to let a play wash over you.  Not try to ride the waves and steer your way through.  Just let whatever happen.  Zero Cost House is one such experience.  The oceanic volume of big picture themes and insightfully sharp details cannot be controlled by the viewer.  Toshiki Okada's play does not let you be in control.

Pig Iron's ZERO COST HOUSE (for Zoom) Begins Tonight

Pig Iron Theatre Company's production of Toshiki Okada's Zero Cost House (for Zoom), translated by Aya Ogawa, adapted and directed by Dan Rothenberg, begins tonight at 8pm (EDT), with performances continuing through September 25.

Philly Choreographer Annie Wilson Returns to JACK With 'At Home With The Humorless Bastard'

Philly favorite choreographer/performer Annie Wilson returns to JACK with At Home with the Humorless Bastard: an exploration of personal and collective grief that shifts the audience's perspective by bringing them onstage and casting them in the dance. Through the piece, she asks whether immediate and deep intimacy with a stranger is possible, and, if not, whether adding nudity, glitter, or amateur renditions of Charles Manson songs would help. Wilson takes aim at social structures that both allow and inhibit the deep connection many are aching for, constantly, relentlessly, like a low-frequency hum that's a little unsettling in the bowels. The Humorless Bastard pokes at those structures, letting them fill up with water, turning the volume up on that hum.

Pig Iron's TWELFTH NIGHT Adds 2/22 Performance at Abrons

From February 4-23, Abrons Art Center presents the New York premiere of Pig Iron Theatre Company's Twelfth Night, or What You Will. Start with a shipwreck, take one part mistaken identity, add in a comedic love triangle and mix with excessive drinking, melodramatic breakdowns and a live, Balkan-inspired score, and you've got a raucous take on one of Shakespeare's most wicked comedies. Alternately absurd and heartfelt, Twelfth Night, or What You Will is replete with practical jokes, gender confusion, and thwarted love.

Pig Iron's TWELFTH NIGHT Set for 12/4-22

Called a "wild rumpus of a show" by the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2011, Pig Iron Theatre Company's raucous, spirited Twelfth Night, or What You Will returns to Philadelphia for a three-week holiday engagement at FringeArts' new waterfront theater, Dec. 4-22, 2013. Buoyed by live Balkan-inspired music performed by members of the West Philadelphia Orchestra, Pig Iron's exuberant staging of the Shakespeare comedy breathes new life into the Bard's classic script with equal measures of absurdity and heart. Tickets to Twelfth Night, or What You Will are available now by calling 215-413-1318 or visiting fringearts.ticketleap.com.
