I had a feeling they’d make that announcement tonight. Cant wait to see it.

The NYT article says it has a Shubert house, so the Circle in the Square rumors weren’t true.

John Gallagher Jr., Stark Sands, Adrian Blake Enscoe, and Wayne Duvall will all continue with the musical.

I unfortunately think this show is DOA in what will be a crowded fall.

I loved this in D.C. and will definitely be seeing it again on Broadway.

I think this sounds exciting and what a stacked team.

So the Broadhurst or the Longacre? The Jones will probably be available too (Heart of Rock & Roll) and possibly the Golden if Stereophonic doesn't extend.

The Broadhurst has Buena Vista Social Club last I heard.

I heard Stereophonic will play out the rest of the year at the Golden as it will win the Tony for play. I bet it takes the Jones

The worst show I saw last year.

I would be shocked if Stereophonic didn't extend.

That means Left on Tenth is going to the Longacre? I think it's the only other show remaining that's been announced for the fall without a theatre.

This is assuming R+J does go to CITS as was initially on their poster and that the Majestic hasn't reopened.

So weird that it’s such a late announcement on a Friday night. That’s when news stories are released that someone is trying to bury.

It’s because the AB had a concert tonight and released their album, I believe. They announced at the concert.

It is very odd that they would bring the cast out to Queens and do a pseudo-announcement when there aren't more details to be confirmed.

Unless the expectation was that the current tenant of the house it's going into would have announced closing by now.

This will have to sell on the strength of the show, since the Brothers themselves aren't exactly Alicia Keys-level famous.

I think they know where they’re going or at least have options depending on what happens in the next few months. My guess is they’ve signed some sort of agreement with the Shuberts and have a theatre unless a better one opens up in time.

It doesn't really work like that. The confirmation that it will play a Shubert house means that the Shubert Org has promised them a Broadway house within their desired timeframe. Lots of verbal agreements and handshakes. They probably know specifically which house they will be playing, it's just not something that can be announced yet. Budgets and designs are all impacted by what house a show plays.

The Lyceum could also be in play for a fall opening (not for Swept). I think we all assume that Oh Mary would like to extend, but Shubert might have had another tenant lined up already when the agreement was made for Oh Mary.

Even if it extends another month to October 15, another show could conceivably begin previews and open before the end of 2024.

You didn’t really say much different than what I did. The house they want is currently occupied and Tonys will probably affect whether it will be free in the fall. However, they have a home otherwise, and there is a rumor of where that is (again, unless a different Shubert house - the one they want - opens up).  They have an agreement with the Shuberts so we know it will go to one of those houses.

I think, like Illinoise, the Avett Brothers have a pretty narrow fanbase. There is no way to sell this show successfully based on their name alone.

Saw this in DC and thought it would fit well in the Booth. I also did not like the show.

I saw this when it was at Berkeley, I thought it had some high highs and some low lows. My wife adored it and has been asking me when it was transferring ever since

If The Last Ship flopped as hard as it did with even Sting starring in the show himself, this is DOA. Probably why Shuberts have been willing to promise them a house with the idea that it will be open come spring for another show. It’s not untrue that they sign shows they know will not pick up steam to keep turnover going and their rent payments made.

Stark Sands and John Gallagher Jr are big stars, hopefully they will be a draw for people. I never heard of the Avett Brothers before.  I imagine this will be sandwiched in between Michael Mayers two other projects this fall both at the Met; Jeanine Tesori’s Grounded and the highly anticipated new production of Verdi’s AIDA.  Most likely a November opening at the Longacre.

No they're not. They're moderately notable within the niche world of Broadway fans, but those people cannot sustain the run of a show, and they're certainly not driving the general ticket-buying public to pay full price.
