I saw Bonnie and Clyde in London this summer in a smallish theatre and really loved it. It's opening again in a bigger theatre in West End and I am wondering if there will be any changes. I loved it just the way it was and hope they don't do much. Great cast too!
The cast from The Arts has only gotten stronger but the surprise for me was Jodie Steele as Blanche. I’d only seen her in “Heathers”, a show I absolutely detest so however good she may have been in that just went over m my head with my hatred of the material. But she’s a damn star with a gorgeous voice.
This is a show I’ve always loved though and never understood the negativity around it when it was in NY, so I’m happy it’s having its moment.
Good to hear. I missed it last so will try to see it. Jordan have you seen Standing At the Sky’s Edge yet?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
YES! I saw it the other day and I’ve been thinking about it non stop ever since. Honestly one of the best things I’ve seen in YEARS. Musically, it’s similar to “Girl From The North Country”, where the songs don’t really push the story forward but more set the tone so don’t go in expecting a traditional musical. Faith Omole, who is nominated for the Olivier gave a performance I’m going to always remember, but the entire cast is perfection. If you get a chance to get a ticket DO IT.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I saw it again last night and it does seem to just get better and better! My favorite song, "You love who you love!" Cheers!

I agree! I think the material is good but I think the staging in nyc kind of came off as lame. I’d love to see a more realistic, bloody, honest show rather than a sleek polished one.
I saw it at the Art's last year. I have read that for the remounting at the Garrick they have eliminated the actors playing younger Bonnie/Clyde as well as a couple of minor changes like a different reprise and scene with Bonnie's mom but I can't recall the specifics.
Mickey Jo Theatre weighs in with his in-depth 4-star review of ''Bonnie & Clyde.'' He details how the Garrick version varies from the Arts, with pros & cons.
The London production seems to be a hit largely based on the fan obsession with Jordan Luke Gage who plays Clyde (he was & Juliet’s original Romeo in the West End). As a result the indiscriminate screeching at the end of, and often in the middle of numbers, can get a little much if you’re not in the mood. I really don’t think B&C is a very good musical but only about 60% of it was audible the night I went thanks to all the screaming. I definitely think it’s a weird show and story to have such a following. I doubt I’ll go back and have another look.
