Seating at the Vivian Beaumont

Hi all!

How is the front row at the Vivian Beaumont in the 200s and 400s (in between the far right and centre)? Is it very low? Are there any difficulties hearing the actors because the orchestra is so close? Would someone about 6 foot have any troubles viewing the production (other than I'm assuming Whistle a Happy Tune)?

Thanks in advance!

It's excellent. I sat in the front row in the 400s. I didn't feel that it was too low, because the stage is so low, so everything is pretty much at eye level, or slightly above. The only issue is seeing the actors on the ship in the beginning if you're in the 200s, but in the 400s it's fine. And the orchestra is not too loud at all, I had no trouble hearing the actors. Your height doesn't make a difference, I wouldn't think (I'm 6'3", if that helps).

Opposite question. How are the seats in the Rear Loge? Would you miss anything?

Nothing worth worrying about.  MAYBE if you are at either I'd the far sides.  But even that would be minimal.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I have seen the show both from the loge and from the front row. Both were great views. Being in the front row was such a cool experience, and the only thing you miss is some of the action on the boat at the very beginning. If I had to choose, I would go with the front row.

The loge sides are shunned as if there were an ebola virus hidden in them.

I too have seen the show from far and near. I was in the right center loge as part of a large group. I thought that it was a fine place to be to take in the entire lush production. The whole loge is only six rows deep so you're not that far from the stage. But two woman next to me at intermission announced that the seats were too high. They might have even left. The woman with whom I had been talking and myself were surprised by this and I have never heard that complaint before.

I also saw this show from seat 101, first row of orchestra left and on the aisle. I had picked that seat because I had noticed how close the actors were to it. With the unique thrust stage at this theater, you are not in the audience looking up at the actors on the stage. You are almost on stage with them, when Ruthie Ann hits her mark to sing out to the audience from just a few feet away. You don't need opera glasses to see the facial expressions of everyone.

If you are only going to see the show once, though, this might not be the best location. Being so close to the actors can distract your attention from the show as a whole. Kelli watched the second act ballet seated on a small stool right next to me. I couldn't help but being distracted from the ballet as I turned my head to gaze at her. She stayed completely focused on the stage, so we didn't get a chance to chat.

Alternative to the OP's initial inquiry, how is Row P in 501 or 101? Do you miss anything, and are you able to hear perfectly from this area? Which side would be better?

Or continue my conundrum and keep waiting until 1/9.......
