We saw it last night at the Duke

 

Imagine Ozzie and Harriet turned on its head. It starts out like a 50's sitcom and by the end it is quite different. Cast is fine and the writing is really quite good.  Very entertaining and guaranteed many on this board will like it.

I was there as well. After a day from hell, some good old escapism was sorely needed. Luckily, I happened to be going to this show. The acting and story were over the top, on purpose, and really brightened my day. A good, fun, yet thought-provoking evening at the theater.

Glad you enjoyed it. The characters in the beginning were annoying as ****

 

As it progressed , you saw the change in them as the story unfolded . It was really well constructed and thought provoking.

I really enjoyed this play but I don't think it's quite perfect yet. The performances are strong but there were a few stumbles over lines. I was never bored but I did find it a little anticlimactic. The great feeling in Act 1 that I didn't know where it was going waned towards the end when it seemed to end... and end... and end. I did love the costumes. I think they did a great job of capturing that style without going too costume-y. I think the play managed to explore a lot of different viewpoints without fully demonizing anyone though there were times that the characters made speeches in a way that didn't feel wholly realistic. But that didn't bother me too much. There was another section in the first act, towards the beginning, where the dialogue did feel kind of forced either because the actors hadn't found a way to deliver smoothly or because it was just too formal as written.

 

Question: Where were they going with the product placement? I thought there was going to be some kind of meta reveal that they were really in a sitcom but that did not happen so why did it seem like they were repeatedly advertising products? It was an odd running gag.

I too  noticed that some of the actors stumbled over their lines.

 

The Duke is a great theater facility. We have seen a few things there.
