A little singing? Maybe even just sing "I wish, more than anything..."
I will say, though, that the orchestrations sound lovely.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

What did I expect? Maybe some music.
You make it sound like we shouldn't have expected music in it. Like if I saw a teaser for NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET where it didn't show that it was a horror movie. But what do you expect?!? Geez, it's just a trailer!

It all looks very familiar -- evidently after ripping off Bob Fosse and Fellini, Rob Marshall decides to rip off Tim Burton, even putting the Streep in full Helena Bonham Carter drag, and stealing a shot directly from SLEEPY HOLLOW.
Hopes that this will rise to being tolerably mediocre are fading.

I know, objectively, that Chris Pine and Billy Magnusson are hot.
But James Corden really does something to me. Something unspeakable.
As for the lack of singing, eh. They managed to point out that it's the director of Chicago and the producer of Wicked. Maybe that's too much of leap to 'This is a musical.' But whatevs. It got me excited.

Putting that aside, I think the beauty of the trailer and the emphasis on its starry cast will serve its purpose of creating positive buzz.

Maybe they wanted to avoid camp and perhaps the overall tone of the movie is more serious vs on stage. But it's a musical not Sophie's Choice. I kept waiting for her to shout about the dingo eating her baby.
