Matilda Lottery

Has anyone tried the Matilda lottery for a weekday matinee lately? I am planning on trying it next week. I have been checking the rush report and it looks pretty good but if it doesn't look better than Kinky Boots on this weeks rush report I may try Kinky Boots. Also, if I don't win the lottery, is it possible to go to the TKTS booth and get tickets to one of those two shows, presuming they are available for that day?

It does seem that the Kinky Boots TKTS on the Wed matinee is a bigger discount than for Matilda. For other performances during the week, it's often the reverse or the same.

Matilda and Kinky Boots lotteries are both hit and miss..sometimes REALLY crowded, sometimes not so bad. I haven't tried Wed matinees too often in general but it does seem to be a day that I never win..but it's certainly worth a shot. For a while you had a pretty decent chance of winning at either of these shows but it seems to have become more difficult during the summer.

Thanks for your input KathyNYC2. Either way, I should be able to get tickets to one of them. For the lottery, I will have my mom with me so we will have twice as good odds. Both shows look amazing and they are both going to tour soon, so maybe I can see the other one on tour.

I tried the Matilda lottos on Saturday and after both drawings they offered lotto loser tickets. I forgot how much they are though.

Generally the Matilda lottery is very easy. I have seen the show 9 times and bought a ticket in advance maybe 3 or 4 of those times. I have always had success getting a cheap ticket through lotto (it has been easy on weekday matinees recently), lotto loser seats ($42 in the orchestra), TKTS, or an occasional $42 orchestra discount seat without entering the lotto when the performance is not very well sold. If you qualify and want to join for $5 it is also on Tix for Students where you can get a $50ish mezz seat for any weekday performance.

I didn't know they had loser lotto tickets available for Matilda. Do they just announce after they call the names of those who won?

Generally if they are going to sell them (they don't 100% of the time but on a Wednesday matinee they probably will) they will keep telling people to stick around if you lose t hear about other ticket opportunities or something like that, and then announce it to the group who sticks around after they check all of the winners' IDs. It's not generally a publicized/official policy at any show that does it, and depends on availability. Matilda only started doing it in like February I think.

I have won the lottery for Matilda quite a few times - but always on the weekends. I have never won during the week when it's supposed to be easier..go figure.

But yes, I was there this past Sunday matinee and they did do the lottery loser tickets I had forgotten to mention that before - but when I tried the weekend before, they did not.

I haven't done the lottery as much at Kinky Boots but I have never seen lottery loser tickets there - but they seem to raise the number of lottery tickets they have given away. I have never seen more than 28 actual lottery tickets offered at Matilda but I have on occasion seen close to 40 at Kinky Boots.

I think in general Matilda lotteries are harder these days for the matinees because more kids are out of school. I have personally won more for the evening shows.

I've entered many times and only won twice. It's really the luck of the draw and day. They offer the Lotto Loser seats about 50% of the time. (They didn't tonight). The problem is they only give out 20 seats, so even if there are only 50 people there, you still have better chances at loosing than winning. It's really frustrating.

Tonight there were maybe 60 people. Last Wednesday though, there were at least 150 people though. It's so odd. Other times I've been, there have been more tickets than winners because no one was there. It's all over the place.

Thanks everyone! I will be seeing 5 shows in 3 days (well trying to, if I can win the lottery, get loser lotto, or TKTS as a backup). I will definitely write a review for all of the shows, as well as my experiences with lotto and rush.

I did the lottery for the evening show got front mezz center.

They had 30 seats available and there were 26 of us in the lottery. Even with a couple of people playing for an absent plus 1 we all got in.

I really like the 30 day rule. If you have won the lottery in the last 30 days you are not eligible to win again. That and the fact that the sunday evening show is sort of new helped sway the odds in our favor tonight.

I was there Friday night with family from out of town... and everyone was able to get a lottery seat - I think they offered 30 but gave tickets to the last 2-3 people there anyway. The seats as far as I could see were last row in the orchestra right by the center aisle or all the way to the sides of the front of the orchestra (somewhat partial view but still good seats).

The more recent Sunday night show will end soon. it was only for a 6 week period. It goes back to the regular schedule in a week or so...but Sunday night has been great for seats.

Regardless, this past weekend was an excellent time for seats in general, as it was a Jewish Holiday which eliminated a decent sized portion of the regular audience in all Fri and Sat shows too.

^^ You saw Eliza Sunday night..she is freaking amazing (8 years old!).

She is really good. I also saw the show the Friday before the Flea market and she was on. She is pretty amazing, and really tiny. Could she be the shortest of all the Matildas so far?

Matilda does have an online lottery - and no longer has the 30 day room. The lottery is now $32 instead of the original 27 and the seats are pretty much in the same places as the regular lottery.

However, they also do a rush for a number of tickets starting when the box office opens... and these tend to be all over..could be rear balcony or mezz/orchestra.

I asked the guy at the box office -it's hard to predict 100% but the lottery has better seats than rush...overall. There are exceptions..
