Does anyone know if "Heathers" is closing? I've been hearing rumors that it will close on September 7th. I really hope it doesn't! It is such an amazing show and deserves a longer run (if they are closing).
Not too long ago, someone on Twitter asked if the show was closing in September, and the Twitter replied there was no set closing date. I also remember the Twitter replying to someone saying they were selling through January.
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
I heard from a friend that she just had an audition for one of the lead roles, so I would assume if they're holding auditions, it's staying open a little longer?
I'm pretty sure it was always open ended. The show is selling past September 7th but all of the discount codes right now are only good for performances up to September 7th.
If everything goes according to plan, there should be a musical around November at stage 1, but I'm not supposed to say what it is yet. Only that it is holiday-themed.
EDIT: changed stage 3 to stage 1 (thank you broadwayguy2)
Anything regarding shows stated by this account is an attempt to convey opinion and not fact.
Selling tickets through a certain date means nothing. If a show wants to close, it closes as soon as it needs to, regardless of the selling tickets date. Often even before the two week notice rule.
I saw Heathers this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was so funny at times, and I was cracking up and yet had that erie vibe when it started to get dark. Did it have corny and juvenile jokes and songs every once in a while - absolutely! That spoke 1980's to me and made me enjoy it even more.
Apparently, there was a new "JD" as I couldn't find him in the Playbill. It said he was a "special appearance, and he was great.
Another actor that stood out to me was Barrett Wilbert Weed who had an amazing voice and carried us through the show nicely. Also, I couldn't help but keep thinking that with her reddish wig she looked and had the mannerisms that reminded me of Debra Messing (or maybe Grace Adler?).
Heather Chandler was another part I felt was played so well. She really brought the BITCH to Heather, and I mean that in the most complimentary way! Kudos to Jessica Wynn!
Katie Ladner played a fantastic Martha that absolutely broke your heart and blew me away with her solo, which was at times hilarious.
But, probably my two favorite roles during the play were portrayed by Michelle Duffy (Ms. Fleming/Veronica's Mom) and Elle McLemore (Heather McNamara) who, in my opinion was just a highlight. Duffy's role as the mom/guidance teacher was so hilarious, she absolutely made me giggle every time she came on stage. McLemore's suicide attempt scene was my favorite scene of the whole show. She sure played that up and had the audience in the palm of her hand. So funny! Just watching her reactions to what was happening on stage made me laugh.
I've never seen the original movie Heathers, but did have an idea of the synopsis. So, going in, it was new to me. I enjoyed it and hope it stays open long enough for everyone who wants to go see it, to go see it! This is a great cast and a fun show to see.
iabwayfan, Barrett Wilbert Weed has been out of the show since last week so you definitely didn't see her. Her wig also isn't red (it's brown), so maybe the understudy who you saw wears something different.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I looked in my Playbill and there was only one replacement slip. It says Dave Thomas Brown as JD, so I guess I'm not sure who I saw. You're right, her wig wasn't completely red, it just seemed to have a bit of reddish color in it to me. I should have been more clear. Thanks for the corrections.
Now that I'm looking at the photos more closely, I wonder if it was Charissa Hogeland.
No understudy has been officially "bumped up" to a role. Ther is a new JD.. Ryan McCartan left the show, as scheduled. Alice Lee left, and the ORIGINAL Heather Duke has joined the company. Charissa Hogeland has been playing Veronica, with swing Molly Hager appearing in Hogeland's ensemble track (New Wave Party Girl). I am unaware that Fairbanks HAS gone on, but she is currently understudying Hogeland as Veronica and they are not "rotating".
Heathers always announces their understudies with a sign at the entrance to the Stage 1 house and a rather funny pre-show announcement.
