The 2014 revival of SIDE SHOW played its final performance at Broadway's St. James Theatre last Sunday, January 4th. With an official opening on November 17th, the production ran for 21 previews and 56 performances with a stellar cast led by Erin Davie and Emily Padgett as the Hilton twins. The revival was reimagined from the original production and featured direction by Bill Condon. BroadwayWorld was there for the cast's final curtain call. This year's hit play THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME celebrated 101 performances on New Year's Day! The number 101 is special for this show in particular because it is a prime number, and the lead character Christopher, played by Alex Sharp, is fascinated by prime numbers. The play opened at the Barrymore Theatre on October 5th of last year to rave reviews. BroadwayWorld was there for the celebration; check out more photos here!

Some of the original cast of Terrence McNally's IT'S ONLY A PLAY has officially parted from the production; Rupert Grint, Megan Mullally, and Nathan Lane played their final performance in the show on January 4th. The rest of the original cast will remain with the production through the end of its extended run. As of now, the production is set to close on March 29th of this year. Replacing the original actors are Maulik Pancholy, Katie Finneran, and Martin Short. Click here to see more photos from the original cast's final curtain call!

Broadway's long-running hit WICKED welcomed several Broadway favorites to the cast last month. Caroline Bowman (Evita, Kinky Boots) is now playing Elphaba, and Kara Lindsay (Newsies) has stepped in to play Glinda. Also joining them are two-time Tony Award nominee Robin de Jesus (In the Heights, La Cage Aux Folles) in the role of Boq and Matt Shingledecker (West Side Story) in the role of Fiyero. Alysha Umphress, currently starring as 'Hildy' in the critically-acclaimed revival of ON THE TOWN, and Tony nominated composer Jeff Blumenkrantz recently joined together to put together a jazz album entitled "I've Been Played: Alysha Umphress Swings Jeff Blumenkrantz." The two talented performers celebrated the release of their album earlier this week at the jazz club Birdland. Their album was released officially on January 6th and is now available for purchase. The original cast of the New Group's THINGS WE WANT reunited this week for a one-night-only benefit reading of Jonathan Marc Sherman's play. The original cast included Paul Dano, Peter Dinklage, Zoe Kazan, and Josh Hamilton. All four actors participated in the reading, which took place on January 5th, and director Ethan Hawke joined the reading as well. The special event took place at the Pershing Square Signature Center, and it celebrated the company's 20th anniversary season! BroadwayWorld was there for all the action; check out more photos here!

Broadway veteran Amy Spanger took her show THIS MUST BE THE PLACE to Broadway's supper club, 54 Below, this week. She previewed the show which ran on January 6th and will run again on January 17th. The show explores Amy's Broadway career from start to finish. Among her many credits are "Kiss Me Kate," "tick, tick...BOOM," "The Wedding Singer," "Urinetown," and many more. Vineyard Theatre presents the world premiere of the original musical BROOKLYNITE, which begins performances on January 30th and officially opens on February 25th. Tony Award winning director Michael Mayer ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "Spring Awakening") leads a cast that includes Matt Doyle, Nicolette Robinson, Andrew Call, Gerard Canonico, Nick Cordero, and Ann Harada. The 11th annual UNDER THE RADAR festival began performances on January 7th at the Public Theatre. The festival showcases artists from all over the world, and this year's festival includes the launch of the new Devised Theatre Working Group, which will presents eight works-in-progress at the festival. The festival lasts for twelve days, and it includes a free installation performance in the Public Theatre's lobby, which is open for the public.
