Traditional holiday melodies, the jazziest klezmer tunes and musical surprises from renowned performers like vocalist Magda Fishman, vocalist and actress Rachel Yucht, virtuoso bouzouki player Avram Pengas, clarinetist Dimitry Zisl Slepovitch and several others filled the air when the National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene kicked off New York City's Chanukah season with a free community-wide "Songs of Chanukah" concert last weekend in the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place.

The concert, sponsored by Arts Brookfield, featured the holiday tunes in a variety of languages like Yiddish, English, Hebrew and Ladino with English supertitles, all under the direction of NYTF Artistic Director, pianist and conductor Zalman Mlotek.
