Every year, Capital Stage brings together a group of passionate and motivated students interested in gaining practical professional theatre training. The apprenticeship program bridges the gap between academic theatre and the professional world by immersing apprentices in classes, rehearsals, performances, projects, and practical application of skills learned in technical production disciplines. Throughout the season apprentices take on many assignments from Assistant Stage Managers to Scenic Builders to Performers and even Assistant Directors.

Each year, as an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and what they have learned with Capital Stage, the apprentices produce their annual Apprentice Showcase. Every aspect of this production (directing, acting, design, build, stage management, run crew) is performed by the apprentices.

The 2015-16 Apprentice Showcase will be Subculture by Steve Yockey. Subculture will run from March 25 - April 11 and will follow select performances of Blackberry Winter, also by Steve Yockey, at Capital Stage.

Two men at the end of the world, some college students with alcohol and a sledgehammer, the perpetrator of a hit-and-run accident, and a roadside elephant in India. The very broken characters that inhabit this collection of shorts wander through a dimly lit, over stimulated and paranoia-fueled world that exists just underneath the dominant popular culture. From the darkly comic to the starkly distressing, these uneasy little plays are tightly wound, structurally adventurous glimpses into some of the most simultaneously intimate and harrowing moments of everyday life.

Subculture will be directed by Jessie Field. The cast will feature Jacob Garcia (Love and Information, Blackberry Winter), Tiffanie Mack (Mr. Burns, a Post Electric Play, The Behavior of Broadus, Love and Information), Alex Martinez (Love and Information), Morgana Marie Sommer (The Behavior of Broadus) and Sara Lynn Wagner (The Behavior of Broadus, Blackberry Winter). The production design team will include Jacob Garcia (scenic design), Morgana Marie Sommer (lighting design), Alex Martinez (costume design), Sara Lynn Wagner (sound design), Sara Lynn Wagner, Jacob Garcia and Jessie Field (projection design), and Tiffanie Mack (properties design).

Performances for Subculture will open on Friday, March 25 and run through April 11 and will follow select performances of Blackberry Winter. The performance dates include: March 25, 26, 30 and April 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11. All performances ofSubculture are free, donations are appreciated.
