Alumnae Theatre Company is thrilled to announce the return of its much-anticipated annual event, the New Ideas Festival, running from April 24 to May 5, 2024.
Celebrating its 36th year, the festival promises an exhilarating showcase of new and experimental one-act plays, presenting audiences with a diverse array of theatrical innovation and creativity.
The New Ideas Festival has been a cornerstone of Toronto’s theatre scene, giving a platform for both emerging and established theater artists to explore fresh ideas and push artistic boundaries. Each year, audiences experience the birth of theatrical history through bold premieres and groundbreaking performances. This year's lineup features an eclectic mix of genres and themes, promising something for every theatre enthusiast.
Studio 180 Theatre has announced the appointment of company co-founder, theatre artist and director Mark McGrinder as Studio 180's new Artistic Director.
Two-time Dora Award nominated actor, Cass Van Wyck (Two Minutes to Midnight, The Huns) will make her directorial debut when One Four One Collective presents the Governor General Award winning play, Bone Cage by Catherine Banks at the Assembly Theatre this Spring.
Alumnae Theatre presents its first live performance since March 2020, NESTED. Alumnae is one of the first theatres to be returning to live theatre in Toronto. Limited engagement starts March 2nd as parts of Fireworks Festival which has been showcasing new plays by women writers since 2013.
Toronto based theatre company, Nautanki Bazaar will present its debut production AN IMM-PERMANENT RESIDENT. Written and performed by Neha Poduval & Himanshu Sitlani and directed by Miquelon Rodriguez, AN IMM-PERMANENT RESIDENT will premiere at the Theatre Centre as part of the RISER Project 2020 from April 12-19, 2020 with the Opening Night on Monday, April 13 at 7pm.
The Silk Road Institute, Canada's premier Muslim theatre company, presents the inaugural Toronto production of Rabiah Hussain's fresh and fierce British drama SPUN, a play about friendship, belonging and South-Asian identity taking place in the wake of the 2005 London terror attacks. On the heels of its Canadian premiere at Montreal's Centaur Theatre, SPUN, will tour to the Meridian Arts Centre (formerly the Toronto Centre for the Arts) for one night only, Saturday, October 12 at 7:30 PM.
Two drowned girls, a perilous love triangle, a mother-less child and a child-less mother. Chloe Whitehorn's new play tackles the rippling impact of loss and the repercussions of drowning in every way a person can drown. Mourning After the Night Before premiered as a one act play at the Alumnae Theatre's New Ideas Festival last spring where it was praised as "Beautifully and sensitively written, it's haunting, darkly funny and mysterious.'
