by Matt Tamanini - January 2, 2015

This Sunday, ABC launches GALAVANT, a brand new musical comedy extravaganza from the Tony, Grammy, and Oscar winning composer Alan Menken ('The Little Mermaid,' 'Aladdin,' 'Beauty and the Beast'). Recently, I spoke with stars Joshua Sasse and Karen David via telephone about the show. ABC was kind enough to record their responses in this video. I would have been on camera as well, but, as you can tell by my voice, I was pretty under-the-weather when we spoke.

She starred in Oscar nominated film PENNIES FROM HEAVENS and Mel Brooks' SILENT FILM, and she was a regular on THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, ALLY MCBEAL, and SMASH. BWW Interview: Wallace Shawn Says New TOY STORY Is Like FIFTY SHADES OF GREY
by Matt Tamanini - December 1, 2014

It's “inconceivable” to think of all of the memorable roles that Wallace Shawn has played in his career (see what I did there?). From THE PRINCESS BRIDE to CLUELESS to his work with Woody Allen to THE COSBY SHOW to GOSSIP GIRL to TOY STORY, Shawn easily has one of the most recognizable faces, and voices, in Hollywood.

BWW Interview: Ricky Ubeda & Valerie Rockey Chat SYTYCD Tour, Living in Close Quarters, Future Plans
by Matt Tamanini - November 19, 2014

As I've said numerous times in my reviews and recaps, I don't think there is a show on television more important for the future of the arts than SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. In addition to exposing the public to a much more emotionally honest and raw form of creativity than we are used to seeing in today's overly packaged and focused-grouped world of entertainment, the show also makes stars out of the usually unsung heroes of the artistic community; dancers.

BWW Review: THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG Extended DVD is an Exciting Journey for LOTR Fans New & Old
by Matt Tamanini - November 18, 2014

When I was given the opportunity to review the Extended DVD release of THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, I balked at first, having never seen or read anything 'Hobbit' or 'Lord of the Rings' related. However, seeing an opportunity to fill in a gap in my pop cultural knowledge, I agreed, and when I got the DVDs in the mail, I called the biggest LOTR dork I know, my brother.

BWW Interview: Brian Newman on New York Jazz, Working with Gaga, Bennett on 'Cheek to Cheek'
by Matt Tamanini - October 15, 2014

There is something so cool about good jazz music. It conjures up images of men in suits, drinking top-shelf scotch in dimly-lit clubs, lounging in rich, elegant gold and maroon furnishings. When I think of jazz musicians, I think of people with a certain level of sophistication; people who appreciate the finer things in life; people who are, honestly, a little intimidating.

Two Atlanta Actors Are Creating a Magical New Musical, THE LAST TIME WE WERE HERE
by Matt Tamanini - October 8, 2014

Over the last month of this past summer, a new musical was exciting everyone involved with the Atlanta theatre community. However, it wasn't playing at the Alliance, or Actor's Express, or Serenbe, or at any other theatre really; instead THE LAST TIME WE WERE HERE played two nights at a Java Monkey Café, and, in a private concert version, in the Aurora Theatre's black box.

BWW Review: GONE GIRL is an Enthrallingly Well-Constructed Web of Lies
by Matt Tamanini - October 3, 2014

So often, movies adapted from books are unable to navigate the pitfalls of translating introspective thoughts and first person narration on the page into tangible action on the screen. However, in GONE GIRL, author Gillian Flynn has effectively boiled down the very essence of her novel into a taut, enthralling script. Since no one knows this story better than Flynn, she was able to hand-pick the perfect elements from the Best Selling book to create a screenplay even more suspenseful and exhilarating than the source material, believe it or not.

BWW Interview: Laura Benanti Talks NASHVILLE, 'The Secret', Connie Britton's Hair
by Matt Tamanini - October 1, 2014

'The Secret' works, y'all! Don't believe me? Ask Tony-winner Laura Benanti. The Queen of Social Media is about to kick off a run on her favorite TV Show tonight at 10:00pm ET. Benanti will play singer/songwriter Sadie Stone, on ABC's NASHVILLE.

VIDEO: Rachel Bloom Inappropriately Announces Santino Fontana Joins Her Showtime Pilot

In one of the most inappropriate announcements in entertainment history, Tony-nominee and FROZEN star Santino Fontana has been cast in Showtime comedy pilot CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND. Also part of the cast will be Broadway alum Donna Lynne Champlin. Series creator Rachel Bloom announces the principal cast in perhaps the most insecure way possible.

BWW Interview: Tamala Jones Drops Exciting CASTLE Season 7 News
by Matt Tamanini - September 29, 2014

Recently I spoke with Tamala Jones, who plays Dr. Lanie Parish, on CASTLE. Despite being left in the dark for the entire hiatus, she promises that Season 7 is going to hit the ground running, and there might be something major happening for everyone shipping and writing fan-fiction about 'Esplaine.' Jones also talked about a new role that is very dear to her heart.
