FOR THE RECORD: DEAR JOHN HUGHES at West Hollywood's DBA showcases the works of acclaimed director John Hughes, by reliving his acclaimed coming of age 1980's teen flicks including Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The Boomerang Theatre Company (Tim Errickson, Artistic Director; Sue Abbott, Managing Director) kicked off their 2011 season with an outdoor production of Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing, directed by Daniel Talbott and starring Sara Thigpen and Nate Miller. After the success of Brief Encounter in the West End and on Broadway, Kneehigh's new adaptation of Jacques Demy and Michel Legrand's The Umbrellas of Cherbourg will arrive at the Gielgud Theatre following a limited run at Curve, Leicester.
Audiences have just a few weeks left to see Stephen Daldry's multi award-winning production of JB Priestley's classic drama An Inspector Calls at the Wyndhams Theatre. The show must close on 13th March 2010, after a strictly limited season.
The Huntington Theatre Company continues its 28th season - a season of American Stories - with A Civil War Christmas: An American Musical Celebration, a new uplifting holiday event by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive, The Mineola Twins, The Baltimore Waltz). Steppenwolf Associate Artist Jessica Thebus (Intimate Apparel, Dead Man's Cell Phone, Sonia Flew) directs. Andrew Resnick (A Civil War Christmas at Long Wharf Theatre) provides musical direction of beloved holiday music supervised, arranged, and orchestrated by Daryl Waters (Tony and Grammy Award nominee for Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk). The Huntington's production will be enhanced by local choirs caroling from the stage before each performance.
The Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center will present the World Premiere of Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. The production will debut in Tampa on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 in TBPAC's Ferguson Hall, the music for Wonderland is by Frank Wildhorn, the composer of The Civil War and Jekyll & Hyde, with book and lyrics by Jack Murphy. Gregory Boyd, artistic director of Houston's Alley Theatre, will direct. Rehearsals have begun and you can see the first pictures direct from the studio hall right here on BWW!
