The University of Washington's Meany Center for the Performing Arts, under the leadership of Executive and Artistic Director Michelle Witt, announces its 2019/20 Season with a lineup of 23 adventurous and visionary artists from around the globe. The 2019/20 Season explores the theme of empathy in the arts and celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, an artist whose life and work resonates with the season's theme. Triple-bill Program 06, Space Between, opens at San Francisco Ballet on March 29 with Tony Award-winner Justin Peck's Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes; the return of Arthur Pita's wild Bjork Ballet, created for the 2018 Unbound festival; and the world premiere of Die Toteninsel by Liam Scarlett, artist in residence at The Royal Ballet. The Nocturne Live concert series, which returns to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire next June, has confirmed pop superstar Kylie Minogue as headliner for the closing night on Sunday 23rd. The chart-topping Australian singer will perform hits from across her back catalogue, as well as music from latest album, 2018's country-tinged Golden. Support will come from multi-million-selling Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose new album The Song Diaries will be released in January. With over 40 UK Top 10 singles between them, this exclusive concert will feature an array of some of the best-known pop hits of the last 20 years.

The young Romanian pianist Daniel Ciobanu will be presented in solo recital by the American Friends of the Arthur Rubinstein International Music Society, Today evening, October 18, 2018, 7 pm at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (154 W 57th St, New York, NY 10019). Mr. Ciobanu was awarded the Second Prize and Audience Favorite Prize at the 2017 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel-Aviv, Israel; his program will include works by Enescu, Mussorgsky, Scriabin, and Stravinsky.

The first concert in the San Diego Symphony's 2018-19 Jacobs Masterworks series included oft-returning guest conductor Edo de Waart and pianist Joyce Yang. The program consisted of Nocturne by contemporary composer Michael Ippolito which was premiered in 2012, and two familiar works, Grieg's piano concerto and Beethoven's 7th symphony. In a pre-concert interview with Nuvi Mehti, Ippolito explained that Nocturne was inspired by Joan Miro's 1940 painting of the same name. Diverse musical influences include Chopin, Debussy, John Field, and the 'night music' of Bartok.
