The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

The history of Broadway's attempts to make commercially successful sequels of hit musicals is not a pretty one. But the Opening Doors Theatre Company, now in its second season at The Duplex staging pocket-sized versions of some of Broadway's most beloved flops, can offer a fabulously fun time from even the most legendary disaster. Whatsonstage.com is reporting that the Donmar Warehouse will be celebrating 80 years of Sondheim with a special production of the legend's 1994 Passion in the Spring of 2010.

International stage and screen superstar Natalie Portman guest judge on tonight's episode of Bravo's Top Chef. While the details of tonights challenge have not been revealed, it may be a safe bet that tonights contestants will have a vegan-inspired challenge on their hands, as Portman has been an outspoken vegan for some time.

The Glasgow Citizens Theatre will present a stage adaptation of the 1994 British feature film 'Backbeat,' a chronicle of the Beatle's largely unfamiliar 'Hamburg Years.' Performances Feb. 9, 2010, prior to an official opening Feb. 12, for a run through March 6, 2010.

Famed actor/director/playwright Austin Pendleton came to Morrisville Sunday to visit an old friend - the play he has been working on for some fifty years. Pendleton and four New York-based theatre friends saw the Actors' NET of Bucks County production of Booth, a drama he has been working on since his college days at Yale.

Gregory Jbara is a 2009 Tony Award nominee for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his emotional and inspired work in Billy Elliot the Musical. This is Gregory Jbara's first Tony nomination. He originated the role of André Thirbault in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and has performed on Broadway in Victor/Victoria and the 1994 revival of Damn Yankees!

Girl Crazy, with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan, will open New York City Center's 2009-2010 Encores! season on November 19, 2009. The season will continue with Fanny, with music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S. N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, on February 4, 2010. Fanny will be the 50th Encores! production presented by City Center since 1994. The season will conclude with Anyone Can Whistle, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents' legendary 1964 musical, on April 8, 2010.

DANCERS OVER 40 Celebrates a Wonderful Year, with an extra special Spring Fling on Sunday, May 18th, from 7:00 -10:00 pm at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Studios, 405 West 55th Street (at 9th Avenue). There will be wine, food and music, and some of the DO40 members will perform numbers from some of the past panels -- the 'Women of Fosse' (The Manson Trio from 'Pippin'), the 'Men of Fosse' (George Marcy performing from 'Damn Yankees') and the 'Dancers and Creative Talents of Gower Champion' (Richard Skipper) as Carol Channing!performing from 'Hello, Dolly!'.

Dsiney's endearing family musical adapts well to the small dinner theater stage. With solid production values and some terriffic performances, the show is a crowd-pleaser. * * * * (OUT OF 5)
