Matthew White is to direct Tamzin Outhwaite as Charity Hope Valentine in the Tony Award-winning musical Sweet Charity at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Sweet Charity previews from 21 November with press night on 02 December, and runs until 07 March 2010. The box office opens for general public bookings at noon on Thursday 17 September. With book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, choreography is by Stephen Mear, set design by Tim Shortall, costume design by Matthew Wright, musical supervision and direction by Nigel Lilley, orchestrations by Chris Walker, lighting by David Howe and sound design by Gareth Owen.

Bucking the trend toward more modest offerings, Shadow Theatre Company expands its programming and offers six shows for its 2009-10 season. Celebrating its one-year anniversary in its new state-of-the-art facility in the East End Arts District in Aurora, Shadow Artistic Director Jeffrey Nickelson notes, 'One group that is under-represented in American theatre is women-especially African American woman; which is why our upcoming season celebrates women and is entitled 'Celebrating Women, Mothers and Daughters.' Women's work, energy, thought, and spirit help build the world we live in today, and each scheduled show demonstrates the strength and beauty of womanhood.' Nickelson goes on, 'Funding for Shadow and all arts institutions have declined over the past year but we have faith that this exciting season will bring people out to the theatre. Girl Crazy, with music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin and book by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan, will open New York City Center's 2009-2010 Encores! season on November 19, 2009. The season will continue with Fanny, with music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S. N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, on February 4, 2010. Fanny will be the 50th Encores! production presented by City Center since 1994. The season will conclude with Anyone Can Whistle, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents' legendary 1964 musical, on April 8, 2010.
