Most Midwesterners older than a certain age have heard the name and may even know how young Buddy Holly died.  Some fans know exactly where they were and from whom they heard the news.  Many fewer know much about Buddy's backstory.   That hole in the history in early Rock and Roll is plugged by the new production of "Buddy … The Buddy Holly Story" at New Theater Restaurant in Overland Park now through July 7.

Yet when this musician's musician sits at the piano backstage or at home, it's jazz-blues riffs that he noodles. On April 26, Mercyland Records will release Madeira's first instrumental album, “Crickets,” comprised of ten new songs that he wrote and produced for a jazz quintet.     

Northport's exquisite John W. Engeman Theatre does it again with a boffo incarnation of Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story. Running through March 3rd at the Long Island venue, the musical is strongly directed by Keith Andrews and boasts an absolutely stellar cast many of whom have been in previous productions of this show. While we know Buddy (along with a few of his friends) died young and tragically in a plane crash, Alan Janes has certainly created a joyous celebration of Buddy's life.

A Buddy Holly Tribute, Lakewood Theatre Company stages a musical revue concert that tells the enduring tale of the musical icon's meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Together, with the Crickets, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens, the multi-talented cast will perform three shows on August 16, 17 & 18, 2018 at 7:30 PM. The concert features music with over 20 of his greatest hits, including the timeless classics 'That'll Be The Day,' 'Peggy Sue' and 'Oh Boy."

The Alhambra Theatre & Dining will kick off its 2018 Alhambra After Dark music series schedule by celebrating Elvis and Buddy Holly. Kevin Mills will return to the Alhambra from February 7 11, 2018 with his award-winning tribute to Elvis in a new show, Elvis is Back! The Rave-Ons, led by one of Alhambra's most popular performers, Todd Meredith, will bring their rendition of Buddy Holly & The Crickets to the Alhambra from March 28 April 1, 2018 in a show entitled, That'll Be the Day. Both shows are concert-style events, and pricing for each show is $65 and includes dinner, performance and parking.
