The World Premiere of the hilarious new pop rock musical Helldrivers of Daytona takes the Chicago stage running through October 30 at The Royal George Theatre, 1641 North Halsted Street, Chicago. With music by Berton Averre (The Knack), lyrics by Rob Meurer (Platinum Records with Christopher Cross), and book by Emmy Award-winner Mark Saltzman (The Tin Pan Alley Rag, The Adventures of Milo and Otis), these award-winning creative minds have put the pedal to the metal in this NASCAR-themed musical full of girls, cars, and rockin' guitars.

Do you remember that cataclysmal moment in the Stanley Kubrick film of Stephen King's “The Shining,” when Jack Nicholson axes his way through the bathroom door and says, wild-eyed, “Here's Johnny!” Well, you won't find it in King's book--or in Mark Campbell's libretto for THE SHINING, the new opera written with composer Paul Moravec and directed by Eric Simonson, opening May 7 at the Minnesota Opera as part of its New Works Initiative.

On Thursday, July 9, Museum of the Moving Image will present a preview screening of Boulevard, featuring Williams in his remarkable final performance, as a quiet man whose life changes dramatically after a charismatic young hustler forces him to rethink his own identity. This special screening in advance of its theatrical release will be followed by a discussion with director (and Astoria, Queens native) Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints) in person. The Museum will precede this program, on June 27, with screenings of two additional films starring Williams in dramatic roles: Robert Altman's Popeye (1980) and Penny Marshall's Awakenings (1990).

In honor of Father's Day, Museum of the Moving Image will present a trio of horror movies featuring scary dads on the big screen in the Sumner M. Redstone Theater. On Sunday, June 21, Horror Father's Day will include Charles Laughton's The Night of the Hunter, starring Robert Mitchum as a murderous preacher; Georges Franju's Eyes Without a Face, about a mad doctor obsessed with fixing his disfigured daughter; and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, featuring a terrifying Jack Nicholson in a Freudian drama set in a haunted mountain resort.

Lincoln Center Film Society Presents 20th Century Fox Films, Beg. Tonight

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced Fasten Your Seatbelts (Part 2): 20th Century Fox (today, August 9-15), a summertime big screen showcase of some of the movie studio's most beloved and unforgettable films. Presented via DCP restorations and beautiful studio library 35mm prints, with a focus on a single artist and their creative contribution to each film, Fasten Your Seatbelts is sure to be a truly rare movie-going event. In the summer of 2010, FSLC presented the first Fasten Your Seatbelts series to coincide with and celebrate 20th Century Fox's 75th Anniversary. The popularity of that series, including screenings of classics like ALL ABOUT EVE, M*A*S*H and ALIEN all but demanded that Film Society and the studio present a 'sequel' at some point.
